Why Manufacturing Still Counts in the U.S. Economy
Wall Street Journal 01/14/2015
The need for a strong and growing manufacturing base in the U.S. is one key realization for business leaders from the heads of Boeing, Intel and GE, and other business leaders to leaders in government. Failure to do this simply breeds a sense of pessimism about the future and creates an economy that leaves many productive people jobless, creates unsustainable trade deficits and foreign borrowing. Jeffrey Immelt says this in an op-ed piece in the Washington Post on the day he is appointed to head the President's Council on Jobs.

Krugman says $1.089 trillion to be exact for the fiscal year ending in Sept. 2012. He gives the 400-450-150 formula to understand what this means in simple terms. The debt would still be stable or declining as a ratio of GDP at $400 billion because of steady GDP growth. He cites the example of the period when debt to GDP declined from 49% to 33% because of steady growth during the Clinton years (1992-2000) even though Clinton started out in 2000 with a deficit. The $450 billion is from lower tax payments because of the 2008 economic crisis followed by recession which would be reversed with restored GDP growth. The $150 billion is from payments such as unemployment insurance, food stamps, to cushion the effects of that crisis and the recession, which would be reversed with restored economic growth.

Forget the New iPhone. For Apple, It’s All About the Dollar.
New York Times 03/26/2016
As currencies in emerging markets, the real in Brazil, the rupee in India, the lira in Turkey depreciate in value, it becomes more difficult for borrowers in these countries to pay back loans denominated in dollars. During the period of quantitative easing policies of U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Bernanke following the financial crisis of 2008-2009, low U.S. interest rates and strong local currencies made it cheaper to borrow in dollar denominated loans than pay the higher interest for local currency loans in reals, rupees or lira.

A Declining Euro Can't Cure All Ills
Wall Street Journal 07/16/2012
Europe will export some of its problems to the U.S. in 2015-2016, as the euro goes to parity with the dollar and makes European products more competitive with U.S. products in global markets. This will hurt U.S. growth. Yet it is important for the U.S. that Europe get out of its deflationary trap, and as for exchange rates and flows of capital this is how the global economy works with little that the U.S. can do about it, says Krugman. He believes many Federal Reserve governors were clueless about the impact of this on the U.S. growth in their March meeting as they pushed for higher rates, merely assuming that the situation it will turn out positively for the U.S. Krugman says that with growth in wages sluggish and low inflation the Federal Reserve needs to be very careful as it considers raising interest rates.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
