The $85 billion of irrational spending cuts going into effect March 1, 2013, originated with Budget Director Jack Lew, says veteran reporter Bob Woodward, of the Washington Post. This is important because dissembiling by the White House on this issue has eroded what little trust remained between Republicans and Democrats in budget negotiations (even though Republicans have also acted improperly), says Woodward.

Spanish and Italian banks bought a large portion of the goverment bonds of their countries under the Long Term Financing Operation launched by ECB chairman Mario Draghi in Dec. 2011. This calmed the financial markets by lowering the bond yields for Spain and Italy, but raises new risks as analysts focus on the risks of the deficit and declining economy in Spain.

McConnell's twin goals of regaining Republican control of the Senate and preventing the re-election of Obama. How the debt ceiling plan he has offered fits in with this. His fears that a default on the U.S. debt could hurt Republicans as it did the last time this happened, when Clinton was re-elected. His plan would separate raising the debt ceiling limit from deficit reduction talks.

Italian banks exchange Italian government bonds for government properties, which they lease back to the government. The banks use the properties as collateral for loans from the ECB, and Italy's government retires the bonds and reduces the debt load. This is part of new legislation passed in the Italian parliament under Mario Monti in Dec. 2011.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
