The $85 billion of irrational spending cuts going into effect March 1, 2013, originated with Budget Director Jack Lew, says veteran reporter Bob Woodward, of the Washington Post. This is important because dissembiling by the White House on this issue has eroded what little trust remained between Republicans and Democrats in budget negotiations (even though Republicans have also acted improperly), says Woodward.
