Paul Ryan becomes the new Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in October 2015, taking over from Speaker Boehner. The U.S. Congress passed a new budget agreement negotiated with the White House to lift the debt ceiling and budget sequester spending caps till March 2017, allowing $80 billion in new spending. The idea was to give Speaker Ryan a new opportunity to bring together Republicans by avoiding the budget battles of the past. This happens as the U.S. faces new threats overseas and the economic recovery remains stalled in 2015.

As the U.S. heads into the presidential election in 2016, Speaker Boehner, Minority Leader Pelosi, Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid in the Senate, complete closed door negotiations with the White House to pass the budget agreement lifting the debt ceiling till March 2017. This agreement allows $80 billion in new spending. It happens as the U.S. and Europe face new threats overseas. About half goes to defense spending and the other half for spending programs including Medicare and Disability Insurance benefits. It also complements the effort of Janet Yellen at the Federal Reserve to support the economic recovery.

With a graying population and UN forecasts of about 400 million people above the age of 60 in 2030, experts had warned for years about the dangers of a one child policy leading to fewer young people. The Chinese birthrate 1.4 children per woman is lower than in the U.S. Experts say it will take a generation for the current trends to change and couples to opt for more children.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
