As U.S. president Obama pushed for the treaty during his visit to the Hannover Fair, German newspapers say the treaty is even more unpopular now than when polls showed that about half of Germans opposed the treaty. Protesters in Hannover say they oppose the treaty because it benefits big business at the expense of working people. Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz oppose the trade treaties. Experts say most of the benefits from trade have already been gained, and the priorities have shifted to infrastructure, wages and the working class in the U.S. and in Europe, as some sections of society have lagged behind.

Lt. Gen. "Ben" Hodges says today 9 out of 10 divisional headquarters are committed, a situation unprecedented even at the height of the U.S. action in Afghanistan and Iraq. New crises are emerging that no one could predict such as Islamic State and Ukraine in 2014. Spare resources to meet new threats are urgently needed but the army is limited by the sequestration budget cuts, sending the wrong type of message to bad actors in the Middle East and Europe, says Hodges. Senators generally think of their state first, Texans about Ft. Hood, Carolinans about Fort Campbell, but no one represents Fort Wiesbaden, Germany. Hodges is based at the U.S. army base in Wiesbaden, Germany.

After German and French revelations about NSA spying activities in Germany and France, including spying on German chancellor Merkel's mobile phone, the pressure is increasing for the U.S. to sign a reciprocal agreement on no-spying with the two European partners. The U.S. already has an understanding with three English speaking countries on no-spying and it makes sense for this to apply to critical Eurpean allies.

Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump grew up in the era of Woodrow Wilson with opportunities for German immigrants even though many families like that of Fred Trump spoke mostly German at home. It was the period following a wave of German immigration from the 1850's to cities like St. Louis, in which another famous immigrant Joseph Pulitzer arrived in America. Some of the leaders in the German community in St. Louis were fleeing Germany after the revolution of 1848 led to suppression of liberties. Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt and Taft, never debated about the value of immigrants to the country at the time around 1905. T.R was known to go into workplaces where immigrants worked in poor conditions so that he could improve these conditions. In 2016 children of children of immigrants were debating the value of immigrants to the country, forgetting their origins and the opportunities opened to them by TR, Wilson and Taft.

The planned sanctions at the early stages of the crisis are for Russian officials and groups taking part in the takeover of the Crimea and threat to eastern Ukraine, and not on the Russian economy. Russian intervention in the Russian speaking eastern Ukraine would lead to the U.S. pushing its case with the EU and Germany for broader sanctions. If a standoff occurs as happened by an earlier Russian intervention in Georgia to support a Russian speaking region, these limited personal sanctions would remain in place.

A joint task force of forces from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Lithuania, and the U.S. is setup in Poland in June 2015. The 5000 troops VJTF goal is to be capable of responding in less than a week. A plan to station a brigade with heavy armor near the Baltic states is being considered by NATO. The German and U.S. defense ministers visit a German-Dutch brigade during a visit to Germany by U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter. This is NATO's response to Russian advances in Ukraine using hybrid warfare and other methods.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
