Trump was sharply critical of the 2011 Alabama immigration law designed to promote self-deportation in calling it "crazy" and "maniacal." What changed in 2015 when Trump called for large scale deportation of illegal immigrants during the presidential campign is not clear. Two other developments happened since the Alabama law- the U.S. economy had largely recovered from the worst effects of the recession and immigration from Mexico was down to low levels, a trickle not seen in a long time as a result of the recession. A third development was that President Obama had pursued a policy of aggressive deportation in his years in office followed by an executive order on immigration late in the second term granting illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship.

Under the Dred Scott decision even children of free blacks were not U.S. citizens. In 1868 this was changed to give citizenship rights to children born in the U.S. It was reaffirmed at different times as children of Chinese working on the railroads, and other immigrant children, were given birthright citizenship. Now Republican candidates are lining up behind Donald Trump to question birthright citizenship, including Bobby Jindal whose citizenship comes from Indian immigrants to the U.S. A WSJ editorial on August 21, 2015, reminds the candidates that they have lost sight of the real origins of that Amendment.

The implementation of "sanctity of life" policies at police departments reduces police shootings but it is also shown to lead to increased crime, says WP. A quarter of the shootings were for mentally ill people and most were carrying a weapon, according to the Post's databas of all shootings in the U.S. Even the FBI lacks such a database and is only now collecting the information for such a database. Still the use of force for small infractions leading to police chases, can lead to better outcomes for officers and for people making the small infractions. In 2015 11 of 65 officers charged were convicted. The Post gives the example of a female officer Lisa Mearkle in Pennsylvania who says she only used her gun when the person she was chasing reached into his pocket. She was acquited by the jury because officers have to make split second decisions or risk their lives. In short the situation is much more complicated than the media makes it out to be, and their are many sides to the story, not merely racism.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
