Infosys Built Its Global Machine With Indian Workers. Can It Adjust to Trump’s ‘Hire American’?
New York Times 10/15/2018
President Trump pushes forward with a trade deal with Mexico to replace NAFTA, leaving out Canada. The new deal changes provisions that allowed Mexico to challenge U.S. trade penalties. It also require the 40-45% of U.S. content to be made using wages of at least $16 per hour. Automakers had invested tens of billions in Mexico to turn it into an export hub using lower cost labor, hurting American workers. The deal is aimed at increasing investment in American jobs in the auto industry.

Ford management turnover at CEO and head of China operations and executives from Europe/ U.S. transplanted to China lacking touch with local conditions led to the disaster in the Chinese market with $1.5 billion in losses in 2018 and loss of about half of the Chinese market by 2019. Exuberant expansion as a latecomer hurt Ford, Peugeot and Hyundai, as the Chinese market declined in 2018-2019 with the new Trump administration in conflict with China over trade goals.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
