The EU deal with Turkey is important for Merkel as she faces new provincial elections in 2017 with growing populist pressures and opposition from the CDU to refugee policy. Pressure also comes from the Social Democrats for expanding domestic welfare. Merkel still has a high approval rating of 54% in March 2016 as she works to forge a EU wide policy for refugees.

With many candidates and a fragmented vote Donald Trump is able to win 35-40% and still win in a series of primaries. Only 17% of eligible voters voted and Trump's vote about less than half of the 17% or about 8%.The Economist magazine highlights this odd situation in its issue of March 19th, 2016.

Hillary Clinton points to the lack of adequate coordination between EU nations and with Turkey on security as a serious problem in an address at Stanford University following the Brussels attacks at the airport and busy subway station. Turkey has knowledge about one of the suicide bombers before the attack but information is not shared with EU authorites because of lack of coordination and no mechanism for this. Clinton points out that there is more coordination between the U.S. and an EU nation than between EU nations, and it is easier for the U.S. to get flight manifests than for other EU nations to share this with each other.

Letters to the Editor take issue with a WSJ editorial saying Kasich or some other Republican could be the nominee if Trump does not win on the first ballot. The letters say Cruz has the vote of more Republicans without other candidates fragmenting the vote, and cross over Democrats voting for Trump in open primaries. The letters ask how may of these Democrats voting for Trump will vote for Trump in the general election, instead favoring Hillary Clinton.

Most of the candidates in the 2016 presidential election have emphasized the problems of sluggish wages and lack of upward mobility in the U.S. Here the Economist looks at the situation with a small number of firms reaping the benefits of high profits and a lagging working class. Rising disparities in income and inequality are creating social discontent and voter dissatisfaction with the establishment candidates.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
