Joshua Wong, two leaders in Occupy Central, are Christians. The former head of the Catholic Church supports the protest and sees it as a protest against further incursions on Hong Kong culture and way of life from what he sees as communist culture that "lacks spiritual values, one of falsity and dishonesty." He sees it as important to resist. Hundreds of churches run schools in the city and the city has apopulation of nearly 1 million Christians out of a population of 7 million. Senior officials such as Carrie Lam and Donald Tsang are Christians.

New leaders in India and Indonesia in 2014 have given a new confidence to investors, whereas leaders in Brazil, Turkey and South Africa have lost investor confidence. Erdogan for Turkey, Zuma for South Africa, and Rousseff for Brazil, do not inspire the same level of confidence. Other leaders who have changed investor perceptions for emerging markets are Putin in Russia with the sanctions. The rapidly changing situation with democracy protests in Hong Kong is eroding investor confidence in China as well, as Jinping in China is seen as adopting the Putin Way.

Even the focus on "no austerity" leaves 50 billion in euros of cuts which will be pushed into 2016-2017. With the critics of Hollande on the left saying he is undermining France's social welfare model. With inflation at estimated 0.3% in the eurozone for September 2014 this is a perilous time of no growth and deflationary tendencies.

A crackdown would affect Hong Kong and China adversely, as international financial institutions would be uncertain about Hong Kong's independent status within China. The Hong Kong police, judiciary, rule of law, its Britain based legal system, would now be seen as beholden to Beijing and not independent. Singapore would gain in that situation. China would lose a laboratory for financial innovation, and lose Hong Kong's vibrant financial markets, as banks move elsewhere.

The risk say experts in China is that this will reduce the chance for ventilating public opinion on important issues including discrimination against women, migrant workers, people with HIV/AIDs, social issues such as espoused by one NGO "Justice for All," increasing the prospect of protests later on. China's development depends on keeping the discussion open, more so to keep the faith of its own citizens, as it tries to evolve into a technologically advanced economy. Denyer refers to sources which describe Putin conveying his ideas about the protests in Ukraine to Chinese president Jinping. Jinping has to weigh this against the fact that Russia has aspired but not taken the action to develop an economy not dependent on commodity exports, and tech startups have withered in Russia in the post Ukraine climate without the open dialogue with foreign counterparts in Europe and America needed for technological advancement. Putin may have actually made a profound mistake by giving into his own nationalistic inclinations, when Russia's own interests to develop into an advanced technological economy and society is not served in any way by the acquisition of territory at its fringes- especially in a global economy and society. China's own interests also lie in continuing development so that there is no risk of ending up in a "middle income trap," that has faced other emerging market nations such as Mexico. China has another reason to consider- many Americans such as Mr. Zoellick are working with the National Development Reform Commission in NGO fashion to bring constructive progress in China's interest- with amazing dedication as it reorients is economy and society. Unfortunately for Mr. Putin and Russia the experience has been different in its early interactions leading to the collapse of the Russian ruble and the economy, with the exception of German cooperation, which has been steadfast and put at risk by Mr. Putin. All sides have a lot to consider, including Mr. Putin, who has received nothing but goodwill from the Ger

In marketing India as a destination for foreign investment India's prime minster Modi emphasized that India was the only country with all three favorable factors - democracy, demographic dividend and demand. India has a population with 55% of the people under age 35. A population of over 1.2 billion mostly younger consumers creating a big pool of demand for many companies. Democracy with coalition governments has been an obstacle for three decades to creating the right framework for legislation on opening the country to foreign investment. Modi's BJP party has an absolute majority in parliament making it possible to take speedy action, with an effort underway to improve its tally of state legislatures it controls. Modi also has a track record of three terms as chief minister in rapidly industrializing Gujarat state. This gives credibility to Modi's plans. He stated that energy was a high priority with a goal of bringing electricity to every village in India in 5 years. A trillion dollars of investment are required in rail which he plans to open up for 100% FDI investment. Manufacturing is a big focus of Modi's plans with the launch of the "Make India" campaign. My country needs millions of jobs Modi told the audience, urging foreign companies to take up his offer. He said the laws and red tape built up from previous Socialist governments would be removed for swift approval of proposals.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
