Opinion | Jeff Flake: We Need Immigrants With Skills. But Working Hard Is a Skill.
The New York Times 08/18/2017
Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump grew up in the era of Woodrow Wilson with opportunities for German immigrants even though many families like that of Fred Trump spoke mostly German at home. It was the period following a wave of German immigration from the 1850's to cities like St. Louis, in which another famous immigrant Joseph Pulitzer arrived in America. Some of the leaders in the German community in St. Louis were fleeing Germany after the revolution of 1848 led to suppression of liberties. Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt and Taft, never debated about the value of immigrants to the country at the time around 1905. T.R was known to go into workplaces where immigrants worked in poor conditions so that he could improve these conditions. In 2016 children of children of immigrants were debating the value of immigrants to the country, forgetting their origins and the opportunities opened to them by TR, Wilson and Taft.

Using information of the impact of President Reagan's immigration action in 1986 experts say the result could be an increase in wages of 5-16% for some workers, as undocumented workers with legal papers move to higher paying jobs. Undocumented farm workers moved to higher paying jobs in construction during that period.

Adam Davidson provide insights into how illegal immigrants complement silled workers on construction jobs, reducing the overall cost of the job and contributing to the U.S. economy. Acting as complement workers immigrants do not take jobs away from ordinary Americans.

Alabama tried a Donald Trump-style immigration law. It failed in a big way. - The Washington Post
Washington Post 08/23/2015
Polls show only 38% approve of tackling the whole immigration issue by executive decree. For Republicans the risk is of overreaction- shutting down the government or not supporting some aspects of changes in immigration laws. Senators Portman and Paul Rand, Republican presidential candidates favor a careful response, and Hispanic Republican leaders support such action. President Reagan declared an amnesty for illegal immigrants in 1986, with support in both parties. There are about 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. in 2014.

Immigrants Aren’t Taking Americans’ Jobs, New Study Finds
The New York Times 09/21/2016
With the sharp decline in immigrants from Mexico crossing the border following the 2009 recession and increased enforcement at the border, the recovery in construction has benefitted mostly native born Hispanic Americans. Of about 500,000 jobs created in the construction industry in 2014 about 315,000 went to Hispanics. The unemployment rate dropped by 5% for Hispanics in 2014, compared to less than 2.8% for blacks and 1.4% for whites, according to the Labor Department. Hispanics also took the biggest hit as the construction industry declined in 2009, the rebound is now reversing this. Hispanic employment has returned to pre-2009 recession levels in 2015.

In his original position in a campaign document for Bush, Ted Cruz expressed concern for immigrants who were trying to feed their families and participate in the American dream, while coming up with proposals to limit immigration. In Dec. 2015 Ted Cruz said in campaign speeches these immigrants were not illegal aliens but "undocumented Democrats," and called for tougher measures.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
