The monarchy in Spain returned only after the years of the Franco dictatorship. These were years of great division and repression in Spain preceded by the violence of the civil war. Juan Carlos and the political parties that emerged in Spain in the 1970's were highly motivated to return Spain to normal political life with a truly functioning democracy and respect for parties on both sides. Juan Carlos also acted as a promoter of Spain overseas. In the current economic crisis he is renewing this role. The king's son is also being prepared for a similiar role.

Prince Felipe, now King of Spain, is thrust into the role of mediating differences between Madrid and Barcelona. Felipe's fluency in the Catalan language and his knowledge of Catalan society are likely to help him navigate the period ahead- with Catalans feeling their grievances over language and other issues have not been heard or resolved. A professor at Georgetown where the prince did his masters degree in international relations see him well trained with the human qualities for the task- as also some Catalan journalists and influential members of Catalan society.

40,000 migrants were expected in the weekend of September 12-13 alone in Germany. Germany was getting close to its limits in handling the rapid influx of migrants from the Austrian border. On Sept. 13 Germany reintroduced border controls which were lifted for Syrian refugees on Sept. 3 as a humanitarian gesture. The border controls were also a message to Europe, said Germany's Interior Minister, Mr. Maiziere, that the Schengen Agreement allowing passport free travel in the 26 EU countries itself was at stake.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
