This article in the Guardian points to the differences within Catalonia about the independence referendum planned for October 2017. The Spanish government says it will prevent a referendum from taking place. In a symbolic poll that took place 3 years ago in 2014, only 2.3 million of 5.4 million Catalan eligible voters took part. Sentiment is in favor of self-determination but only among less than half of Catalans, as most Catalans would not come out to vote. The Spanish government says the referendum would be a violation of the constitution.

Catalan leader Arturo Mas and Catalonia's plans to seek a referendum along the lines of Scotland

10/08/2014

Arturo Mas scheduled a referendum vote on independence for Catalonia on Nov. 9, 2014. He awaits a ruling from Spain's Constitutional Court which could come in 2015. Mas says the Constitutional Court is biased in favor of Spain. His Plan B is to hold a new parliamentary election as a plebiscite on independence. The head of the Catalan Assembly says Catalans will act in a peaceful and democratic way as Catalans are a mature people having gone through much suffering in the 20th century.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
