The study reveals the impact of smoking, education levels to understand good food choices, the income levels and availability of food choices in neighborhoods, graduation rates, as critical factors. Other factors cited in reader comments are increasing stress as women joined the workforce in larger numbers, obesity and poor eating habits.

Studies of women eating at restaurants show the lack of healthy choices and frequency of visits to restaurants can have a large effect on obesity. Women eating 5 or more times a week at restaurants risk taking in about 290 extra calories a day than women eating out less often, according to one study. Obesity is one of the biggest challenges facing the U.S. The hidden costs of obesity through the wider spread of diabetes and other diseases are a large part of America's healthcare cost problem. The slow progress in tackling this continues.
