Following the problems of Valeant Pharmaceuticals with shares dropping 14% in one day, this report in the WSJ looks at the risks Elon Musk is taking with personal loans using collateral in Tesla to support Solar City. Musk says its not a house of cards because he is only doing this because he feels he should take some of the risk when shareholders are taking risk. Yet the shareholders are closely connected with venture capital companies in which Elon Musk has connections and relatives all interconnected in this arrangement, creating an unusual and risky arrangement, says WSJ

China's per person GNP is about one fourth the U.S. on a purchasing parity basis which covers the cheaper price of goods and services in developing countries. But this does not reflect the wealth distribution which is highly skewed geographically to regions on the coast and around cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, and in the population with wealth concentrated with the people in the top 20% of the population. As a result most people in China make only a small fraction of what Americans make. Wealth and incomes are also skewed in the U.S. since 2000 but not as much as in China. This is why China as a whole may not have arrived at middle income status. The other characteristics of China are the huge focus on infrastructure building through state run companies and banks, use of a large portion of the world's commodity resources, which is now winding down as China shifts to a more consumer driven economy. The boom years of growth are now behind China, and China faces further hurdles to growth in the next decade with the deb to GDP ratio estimated at about 270%. The Communist Party of China sees itself as the only way for China to continue the path to modernization and growth.

Mr Amano of the IAEA, the UN agency which will monitor Iran's compliance with the agreement says the job of looking into the issues of past nuclear activities by mid-December 2015 can be done if Iran cooperates fully. He has worked out a side agreement to ensure Iran provides information. He says instead of ticking away at boxes this time in sequence and being slowed down as Iran dragged its feet for moving to the next step, this time all the matters will be tackled simultaneously. Still he sees this as a challenge of filling in a large jigsaw puzzle. The Parchin military site receives special mention. Iran gets three weeks interval before the inspection of a military site begins, during which time it could move nuclear material to a different site. President Obama says at his news conference on July 15, 2015, that he relies on laws of physics that will tell the U.S. monitoring tools whether any nuclear material was at a site.
