The Spanish government is expected to impose direct rule over Catalonia under Article 155 of the constitution. Article 155 allows direct rule in a crisis. About 43% of Catalans voted in the independence referendum, with 90% favoring independence. The anti-independence voters did not turn out to vote. The situation is tense as the Spanish government cannot take full control, creating more uncertainty. Regional elections are proposed by Spain's Socialist Party, PSOE.
