‘I’m Here to Help,’ Trump Tells Tech Executives at Meeting
U.S. president elect Trump meets with the heads of tech businesses on Dec. 14, 2016. CEO's of Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft were present. Trump was exuberant about the advantages secured by U.S. tech companies in global business, saying- "there's nobody like you in the world. Anything that the government can do to help this go along, we're going to be there for you." The discussions covered need for more vocational education, advantages and disadvantages of trade with China, and immigration. Quarterly meetings of this type are now planned with a smaller group organized by Jared Kushner to cover immigration and education. Jeff Bezos of Amazon described the meeting as "very productive." Bezos says he told the group that the best way was to use innovation to create jobs outside of tech in agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing elsewhere, to create large number of jobs. Ginni Rometty, CEO of IBM, and other executives are part of the Strategic and Policy Forum set up to provide business input to the president.

The 2008 financial crisis hurt the prospects of older white Americans who faced higher unemployment. It also led to the rescue of the financial industry and rates dropping to zero hurting the savings of ordinary Americans, and as the FDIC's Sheila Bair pointed out not much done to rescue homeowners under water. During the 2008 election candidates John McCain and Barrack Obama, both had connections to the real estate and financial industry, to lobbyists for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as cited in the media. This time is no different with Clinton and Trump both having connections to Wall Street yet seeking the support of ordinary Americans hurt by the 2008 financial crisis. The only difference is that Clinton faces a movement within her party led by Bernie Sanders that calls for a different approach this time. There is also little difference between the economic team that Jeb Bush put together in its connections to Wall Street with Columbia University Business School Dean Hubbard and that of Trump.

On issues of information technology he offers his advice and calls for improvements. In one situation he advised that the mobile app should download in miliseconds. The Washington Post has surpassed the New York Times in digital viewers online and is catching up to BuzzFeed. All this is being done without lowering the quality of content.
