About 90% of Greeks are dissatisfied with the Tsipras government in October 2016, as the impact of austerity cuts continues. Pensioners, government employees, teachers, and other groups protest against the government. Tsipras fails to gain further concessions on the debt programs and German Foreign minister Schauble rules out any concessions till after the federal elections in 2017.

During the last minute negotiations Tsipras veered from one side to the other. Initially he moved closer to Syriza party leaders who favored an accomodation with the IMF and EU, yet with each rejection of Greece's proposals he moved closer to the confrontational postiion of finance minister Varoufakis. The IMF and EU negotiators considered higher taxes on business in the Greek proposals hurting long term growth, and insisted on pension cuts. Greece's negotiating team was still negotiating over details when Tsipras called off talks and surprised European leaders with his call for a referendum. His announcement that Syriza would call for a no was badly received by EU leaders and Merkel, leading to a breakdown in trust. The inexperience of 40 year old Tsipras and the faculty professor Varoufakis's lack of experience with negotiations, may now have damaged relations between Greece and Germany. The reaction in Germany to this is that now a majority of Germans see Greece's exit from the eurozone as the best option, and the goodwill of leaders in France, Italy and Spain may have been lost.

Less security around parliament, cafes and bars filled till midnight, public support for the Tsipras government climbs to 70%, a new sense of optimism pervades Athens after five years of austerity and protests. Ordinary Greeks feel the new government can take action to end the cronyism and corruption that led to the economic crisis.

As Greece goes to the polls his popularity is not what it had been in January when Syriza Party won 36% of the vote. It is not even the popularity he had in July after accepting the terms of the third EU bailout. Polls show him running even with the leader of the New Democracy Party, Mr. Merimarakis. Merimarakis came out strongly in the presidential debate, even swearing at times, and saying Greece was paying too high a price in the education of Tsipras. Tsipras says he underestimated the creditor's resolve and has learned from his mistakes. The difference in this election from the election in January 2015 is that the political leaders see that there are no simple solutions and Greece will have to work its way out of the debt crisis in several stages. Tsipras says he has made a difference for the unemployed by providing emergency benefits.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
