Schapiro and Khuzami, the new faces at the SEC as chief and enforcement director, are the old faces at FINRA which took ahands off view of self regulation of the financial industry and the old faces at Deuteche BAnk as inhouse lawyer. Sir James Crosby, the head of HBOS bank in the UK which needed $17 billion f government money in 2008, was made Deputy chairman of the Financial Services Authority in 2006, Britain's main regulator. He reisgned hours before a stormy session in the House of Commons which embarrassed Prime Minister Brown after some revelations about Crosby,s role in the mess.

Putin clearly has something personal that grates him about Sahkavili and this has been injected into already evident Russian sore feelings since the 1990's, so its hard to make out where Russia's real priorotoes lie with Europe or without. It still appears that after Georgia they are still firmly with economic integration with Europe.

His story in the New York Times fits in with accounts of links to the heroin trade of Karzai's brother who heads the provincial council in Kandahar. This also shows how trust is being lost in the Afghan government among the people as stated in a cable by a senior career foreign service officer from Britain in Kabul to the French government.

Efforts were made in 2005 to increase flights beyond the restriction to 7 states- originally the law restricted flights to 4 states. Southwest has been fighting this law passed as an amendment to an aviation law by U.S. House Speaker Jim Wright in 1979. Its intention was giving American Airlines the incentive to build a giant hub at the new 1974 Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Both the automakers unions and management lacked the vision and courage to break totally with the status quo. The unions in hanging onto higher medical benefits and the management onto their higher compensation, and the management failing to shift to higher fuel efficiency standards comparable to competitors in Europe as mandated by the EU. In the process they stand to lose the higher medical benefits, and the higher compensation under government oversight as condition for loans, and along with that the jobs of unions and of management as well as the huge downsizing occurs in 2009.

Mexico's oil law comes as the nation faced a crisis in declining oil production since 2006. Efforts by the newly elected PAN party Calderon administration in that year and throughout its term in office failed to open up the oil industry to foreign investment, as the PRI and the PRD opposition parties opposed this. A two thirds majority in Congress was needed to change the constitution allowing foreign oil companies to compete with state owned Pemex. The increasing oil production from shale in the U.S. and Canada has increased the urgency, and the potential in deep waters off Mexico for which Pemex needs the technology of foreign oil companies has added to this.
