Shagaya hopes to increase customers from the current 150,000 to 1 million for a Lagos population of 15 million, of which 5 millon are online on phones and computers....

It is important to attract talented employees for companies to have the best arrangements for safe transportation at additional cost. Parents of these young women and the women should feel that its just as safe as for men for them to work or travel at night. In this case the Supreme Court decision was to let stand a lower court ruling that Mittal CEO of HP Global Soft was liable for prosecution in the case of a rape and killing by a driver of a HP employee, because the company had hired the driver and made the transportation arrangements that led to this death....

Spain's prime minister Rajoy, is having difficulty in controlling regional spending. Regional government accounted for two thirds of the amount by which Spain exceeded its deficit target for 2011. Because of its unique decentralized structure after the end of the Franco dictatorship the regional governments account for 57% of Spain's public spending, according to a Professor Gascon at Complutense University in Madrid. The risk is that the regional governments will use the recent decision by premier Rajoy to increase the 2012 deficit target to 5.8% from 4.4%, as a reason to lower their own efforts to reduce fiscal spending. One factor in favor of the Rajoy administration and of budget minister, Cristobal Montero, is that 11 of 17 regional governments in Spain are now run by his Partido Popular, with Asturias and Andalusia expected to join the list in upcoming elections. This is also crucial to maintaining Spain's credibility in the EU after its decision to increase the deficit target for 2012, but keep the deficit target of 3% for 2013, calling it "a sovereign decision of Spain."...

Full Yield is a startup in Boston that is trying to help address the nation's obesity problem by introducing healthier foods and meals in cafeterias. It plans to introduce a line of Full Yield branded food made from fresh items and natural ingredients for sale in corporate cafeterias and prepared food sections of local supermarkets. It is based on a simple idea that if you eat healthier food you will be healthier. A study in the Jan-Feb issue of journal Health Affairs says 75% of the $2.5 trillion in health care spending deals with obesity, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer. And how much of this traceable to obesity and bad eating habits, smoking and lack of exercize? This study says most of the cases are preventable by changing these behaviours. Dr. Kenneth Horpe, chairman of the department of health policy and management at Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, shows that if trends continue U.S. annual health care costs related to obesity would reach $344 billion by 2018, which is 20% of total health care spending. In 2009 it accounts for 9%. Thorpe says if even the 1987 levels of obesity were reached it would free up enough money to cover the uninsured population today. For American companies the problem has grown to alarming proportions and yet no nationwide coordinated plan bringing together companies, government, universities, public interest organizations, and other groups exists in the U.S. The CEO of U.S. grocery chain Safeway, Steven Burd, says Safeway was spending $1 billion to cover health care insurance for workers by 2005, with costs rising 10% a year- this meant putting out twice in health care insurance than Safeway's earnings and hitting another $500 million by 2010. Between 2004-2009 the costs of insurance surged 31%, making this the fastest growing single corporate expense, according to Towers Perrin. This reduces incomes of workers as companies pass on part of the extra cost, and reduces the profits that can be put back in new investment for economic growth....

Alan Blinder, former Fed senior official, makes a spirited defense of the Federal Reserve's $600 billion quantitative easing move in November 2010. He says at the most this would lead to 1% to 3% inflation, and not the inflation critics are pointing to that would hurt the US. He is critical of the mercantilist countries, Germany and its Finance Minister Schauble, for calling this currency manipulation. He finds it incomprehensible that aides to Russsian Prime Minister Putin have asked the Fed to consult with Russia before taking such action. His preferred move would have been to purchase private securities and reduce the rate the Fed pays on reserves to negative. This he says would blast reserves out of banks into more productive uses. Yet he sees the Fed's move as better than doing nothing. He says that if buying Treasury's is a weak tool, a view he shares, then this should not be very inflationary. German wages overall slipped in 2007 in real terms and are not keeping up with inflation,they have declined in 4 of the last 5 years according to economists so there is considerable pressure to increase wages. Wages as a share of national income has been falling steadily since 2003. And there is a lot of worker resentment to the information now readily available about what the managerial elite is making. One survey by Kienbaum Consultants shows that German managers earnings increased by 17.5% last year. The scandals at Siemens and the other scandals involving CEO of Deutsche Post and other scandals of Hartz at Volkswagen have undermined public confidence in the country's mangerial elite to the point that only 15% of the public have any confidence in them according to poll by TNS Emnid a polling and research company. Local eletions in Hamburg confirmed a shift to the left and to Social Democrats which will make it more difficult for the Christian Democrats under Merkel to execute their agenda of freeing up the economy....
