King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is pushing for an end to hostilities between the Sissi government in Egypt and Qatar as the security threats in the region intensify. Different states are backing different groups in the Middle East. This has led to a war in Libya between competing sides, and conflicts in Yemen. Iran has supported other sides in the conflict. Islamic State now threatens Saudi Arabia as Iran pushes for aggressive action against Islamic State in Iraq, creating common ground with new security threats in the region.
