Under legislation passed earlier Mexico plans to give free television sets instead of subsidizing converter boxes during the shift to digital television in Mexico. This say reporters is being used by the ruling PRI government to win votes in the State of Mexico working class areas around Mexico City. Three million television sets have been distributed, and seven million will be distributed by the end of 2015.
