Volvo's sales declined in the U.S. to 56,000, though overal global sales increased to 449,00 based on higher sales in China and Europe. The new investmetn follows Daimler's decision to invest $500 million in U.S. plants. This is happening as other auto companies continue expansion in Mexico where labor costs are a fraction of that in the U.S. VW has managed to negotiate lower costs in the southern state of Tennessee, U.S., to about $38 per hour including benefits, $10 lower than Fiat Chrysler's costs.
