There she set out her economic plan to limit grocery costs, cut housing costs and cut pharmaceuticals costs, address child care, and pave the way for an Opportunity Economy, A New America Way Forward.

John Taylor and Allan Meltzer point to the risks of short termism and discretionary policies at the Fed. Taylor says a single mandate for inflation should replace the current dual mandate for both inflation and unemployment so that monetary policy can be rule based avoiding the boom and bust periods hitting the U.S. economy in the last decade, when interest rates were set too low using discretionary policy.

A WSJ poll in 2010 showed that between 1999 and 2010 public sentiment had completely changed seeing trade as hurting American workers. A study by counties in the U.S. by Autor, Hanson, and Dorn showed the damage done by trade policy for American manufacturing workers. By March 2016 in the U.S. presidential election Michigan primary large gains were made by Republican and Democratic candidates opposing trade agreements including TPP negotiated by president Obama.

The jobs of suppliers, dealers, bondholders, managers, board members, union officials are all on the line say Walsh and Howes if they can't get their act together and move quickly. There just isn't the time to kick the proverbial can down the road says Howes, and their is bailout fatigue say Walsh and Howes so dates coming up February 17 for debt restructuring and March 31 must be met quickly with action that is convincing. It will be a tough act and its not clear that old management and union officials can measure up to the task ahead from what has been seen over the years according to the columnists.
