Aeroflot, Russia's national airline, improves its image for safety, in-flight service, through a rigorous program of pilot training and training of inflight personnel. It has one of the youngest fleet of aircraft of any airline, and because of the Moscow hub being further north than Dubai, promotes itself by advertising 2 hour shorter flight times to long distance destinations. Even though the domestic passenger volume declined in 2015 because of the recession, it has increased overall by appealing to Chinese passengers.

Is this a bad omen for the lobbyists or the Obama administration, or both, asks Rich in this NYT piece. Rich comments on a series of Washigton post articles showing the cooperation of lobbyists and senior members of Congress and the Obama administration. The Republicans too have the same pattern. In this context see Brooks article about the coming culture wars that cut across party lines and are based on values.

One of the lessons of the global economic crisis is the need to protect consumerts to protect the economy as a whole. A system of lobbying and campaign contributions by the banking industry to members of Congress kills action in the public's interest. A dysfunctional system of consumer protection with powers and responsibilities spread over many federal agencies and no accountability, tends to put banking interests first, leading to the problems in the current crisis with subprime mortgages.

We took a different way to help millions around the world build educated informed mindsets that affects and shapes their lives. For a future that is open, global and digital, with everyone having access to high quality information. We believe in the renewal of America, renewal of Europe, the renewal of India, the rest of Asia, Latin America and Africa. The renewal of our supply chains, health, education, infrastructure, as we rebuild our countries after the pandemic. Literacy and knowledge we believe cannot thrive and grow in a world of web bots, web crawlers, or AI. This requires human curiosity, human learning, and human imagination. We take as inspiration the saying- “One has to be free, and as broad as sky. One has to have a mind that is crystal clear, only then can truth shine in it.” Every contribution whether big or small is precious- in this crisis and ahead.
