Three decades of industrial progress and urbanization have left most countries with a new generation that has lost the benefits of this type of energizing and invigorating exercize, that does a ton of good for physical and mental health just when it is most needed during a massive pandemic.

This WSJ report looks at the efforts of sugarly cola companies such as Pepsico under a new CEO to push their cola products aggressively with advertising, and modern logistics. It cites Barry Popkin, nutrition professor at the University of North Carolin School of Public Health that they are making products that are killing us more slowly. With less sugar than before but still at a time of dangerously high obesity levels in the world just as dangerous or more dangerous to humans, because they are not as healthy as previous generations. The pandemic proved the danger of higher obesity levels. The numbers say it all-1% of children 5-19 years obese in 1975 going up by 8% to 9% in 2020, and doubling to 19% in 2035, says the WSJ. That is doubling by 2035 to 19%-  simply astounding. Popkin says the fact that Americans are living more years with disabilities, and fewer disability free years, is very much linked to the food intake. On The Guardian's pages was an article about a surgeon who has a startup in Austin, Dr. Attia of Early Medical, that promotes "healthspan." It focuses on getting healthy living habits  through better nutrition, exercize, to start at an early age as being critical for a healthy life span. It is not the same starting at an early age with good food and exercize habits vs starting later in life as this means fewer disability free years when starting later in life.  ...

Reflecting with gratitude for things that have gone right on Thanksgiving Day in the US in 2025. Peggy Noonan asks us to follow Charles Dickens advice- Charles Dickens in “Sketches by Boz”: “Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” Thinking of old friends, of science that heals things, of the world outside and the joy of work. Knowing readers across different towns and cities around the world, and being able through Lyrarc.com "to provide a product that helps millions build educated mindsets that affects and shapes their lives that gives me inspiration for the effort." And the joys of Nature for me that include hiking in the French Alps near Grenoble and in the Austrian Alps near Innsbruck, and visiting simple churches in the mountains and in Munich, watching children in exercise in the gardens of Innsbruck. Like Peggy Noonan thankful to watch the World Series baseball the LA Dodger's Ohtani, and the 2 day Ashes Cricket Test with Mitchell Starc. ...

Astonishing distortion of a concept that is basically about better designing cities to reflect lessons learned from the pandemic and the importance of quality of life, worklife balance, healthy lifestyles. WSJ offers some useful advice in its Invest in Yourself series. Its a good idea to separate this investment into three baskets, your career or professional, the personal- what passions you have and interests you enjoy, and the health- the food and exercize habits that keep you healthy and vibrant. Overinvesting in one financially or in time can lead to hurting the others. For this reason keep a good balance so that you do not burnout and enjoy aspects of the personal and health at the same time as you accomplish your goals for professional growth. Staying motivated and healthy in all the ways possible, doing things you enjoy and are excited about gives you the ability to get to where you would like to be.
