Years of neglect under the Mubarak government have led to a situation in which Egypt imports 80% of its wheat supplies and agricultural products. Corruption in the sale of fertile land to developers for building homes, lack of electric supplies to farmers to pump water, lack of investment in infrastructure and irrigation, and the liberalization efforts which led to farmers diversifying from wheat into more profitable products such as fruit and flowers, have led to the current situation.

Marketing campaigns in 2011 for the Toyota Siena, Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Dodge Grand Caravan, Ford C-Max. Sales are up 42% for Honda Odyssey since October 2010, when 2011 models and campaign was introduced. The campaign has helped increase sales by 18.5% through November 2010, for Toyota's Siena. This is double the industry average for minivans and is a bright spot for Toyota, whose overall sales have been flat since the recalls. Toyota's Siena campaign shows rapping parents with kids in the back, making it cool to be seen in a minivan. Toyota's national marketing manager says the stories they heard were that people just did'nt want to be seen in a minivan, the soccer-mom joke or feeling playing a part in this. These ads hope to dispel that notion.

Consumer Confidence Index for households with incomes below $50,000 has declined. Households in this segment are worse off in this recession. The Index for households with incomes below $35,000 shows even more decline. This will affect dollar stores and Wal-mart sales. The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index for this segment has improved for this segment.

Israeli prime minister Netanyahu meets President Obama in Washington D.C. the day after Obama called for Israel to return to pre-1967 borders in a negotiated settlement. Netanyahu rejected Israel's return to pre-1967 borders, calling these borders "indefensible" and also "unrealistic" because of the large Israeli settlements inside the West Bank. The central bank of China, People's Bank of China, cut its benchmark one year deposit rate by 0.25% in Nov 2014 to 2.75%, and reduced the one year lending rate by 0.4% to 5.6%. Banks will be allowed to offer interest rate on deposits of 120% of the benchmark instead of 110% previously. Experts say the effect on GDP is small. The cut helps large firms reduce debt pressures. China is going through a phase of slowing growth.

A loan scandal at Post Hellenic Bank cost the bank $678 million. The CEO of Pos Hellenic Bank, Angelos Filippidis, recklessly approved loans without guarantees according to prosecutors in Greece. He is now in a Turkish jail awaiting extraditon to Greece after being arrested in a Istanbul hotel. Eleni Raikou, and Popi Papandreou, are the two leading Athens prosecutors conducting the investigations. Three deals for submarines, tanks and aircraft cost $6.8 billion and are said to be purchased at inflated prices. These deals are being investigated. It is this widespread corruption in the political elite in Greece that has drawn the ire of Germans when considering the request for new loans to prevent a bankruptcy in Greece in 2011-2012.
