The new minimum wage goes into effect in Germany in 2014. It is meant to counteract the trend of a growing number of workers who are not covered by wage agreements between labor and business in Germany. An increasing number of women are doing low wage jobs in Germany, and the number of workers in part time jobs with lower wages has increased as German labor union exercized restraint on wages in the last decade.

Few economists predicted the third quarter 2014 GDP decline of 1.6%. The bright side to this is that much of the decline is due to falling inventories. Experts say excluding this effect growth would be about 0.6% for the 3rd quarter. Growth is expected to pick up as falling inventories are replenished in 2015. It also discredits officials at the Bank of Japan and the Finance Ministry who insisted the consumption tax should go ahead and would not be a drag on the economy, giving the government more room for stronger action in the future. Prime minister Abe is considering holding a snap election to run on a pro-growth platform to push ahead with his plans.

The inflation rate fell from 45% annualized rate in July 2013 to about 30% in Dec 2013, offering a short respite with a slight easing of the sanctions regime, but Cerisola says Iran remains in serious danger of "external shocks," that could affect Iran's currency, the rial. Cerisola says in his report that the reduced subsidies for fuel and food, poorly funded social programs, and the "marked deterioration in the external environment stemming from the intensification of trade and financial sanctions, have weakened the economy."

Black people between the ages of 17 and 35 are extinct in South Mountain say some older residents of this area who take care of the grandchildren left behind. The emphasis on law enforcement has created safer quieter neighborhoods but it has also created a problem of missing young people.

Yields on low rated junk bonds have declined to about 6% as prices move up. Also observed is an increase in covenant lite corporate loans. These types of loans relax lending standards- this increased from $8.5 billion in 2010 to $36.5 billion 2011, and $58 billion in 2012, according to Dealogic. This has drawn the attention of Fed Governors Jeremy Stein and Richard Fisher of the Dallas Fed, who have raised a warning about the rapid increase in credit and financial risks.

Things got a lot worse in the importing countries of the US and western Europe after October 2008 so the closedowns will have accelerated. This will have asignificant impact on the export sector and foreign investment that has propelled the economy so far. Ukraine under President Yushchenko joined the WTO, and will now work towards a trade agreement with the European Union, which should help raise living standards in this country of 46 million people still lagging behind other Eastern European countries like Poland in economic conditions. Yushchenko will support membership in the WTO for Russia, and hopes to use the dispute settling mechanisms of the WTO to settle disputes with Russia over steel, sugar and dairy products. Ukraine is the largest country in the former Soviet Union, making this one more step towards bringing Eastern European countries into trade and commercial relationships with the rest of Europe. And it provides another manufacturing location for companies in Western Europe, if wages rise significantly in Poland and the Czech Republic.
