Germany's chancellor Merkel on the EU and Britain before the election of EU president

Merkel sees Britain's role in Europe as providing a strong counter balance to the statism in France and sees Britain as offering a different aspect that Europe needs. She told the German parliament in June 2014 she finds it unacceptable the way German opinion sees Birtain's role as not necessary for Europe.
