Ms. Park, daughter of military ruler Park Chung Hee of S. Korea (1961-1979) was elected president in Dec. 2012 for a single five year term. She had the overwhelming support of people over 50, with her liberal rival Moon enjoying the support of people in the 20's and 30's. Both candidates vied for the vote of people in the middle in their 40's. S. Korea faces a slowing economy and the focus in this election was on the economy, high household debt, welfare support, high tution costs and the job situation for young people.
