The $500 million jury award to two persons getting hepatitic C as a result of "unsafe practices" at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada. The jury decision for punitive damages was made against Health Plan of Nevada for $270 million, and Sierra Health Services for $230 millon in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas. The plaintiffs argument was that the insurers paying the health care provider had a responsibility to monitor the quality assurance of providers in its network.
