Robert Kennedy's fight against SSRI (selective serotinin reupotake inhibitors) Zoloft Paxil Prozac pshychiatric drug over use to point where 17% of Americans use them in 2026.  RFK Jr. tells a mental health summit- “Psychiatric medications have a role in care, but we will no longer treat them as the default, we will treat them as one option, to be used when appropriate, with full transparency and with a clear path off when they are no longer needed,” Mr. Kennedy at the Mental Health and Overmedicalization Summit organized by MAHA Institute. FFK Jr writes a "Dear Colleague" letter for directing providers “to expand the use of nonpharmacologic treatments and to strengthen informed consent and shared decision making.” That letter recommends psychotherapy, exercise, social connection, physical activity, diet and nutrition instead of overuse of psychiatric drugs. “Our goal is straightforward: to reduce unnecessary dependence on medication, to improve patient outcomes and to return control to the patients,” ...

For the US to do a economic bailout of IRGC Iran now would be a betrayal of the US interest, and of the Iranian people who protested, says WSJ. This strongly worded WSJ editorial from the WSJ Editorial Board says Iran entered 2026 with an economic crisis, then a political crisis with widespread protests and suppression by the IRGC, leading to the Iran war to take out nuclear sites intending to produce nuclear weapons. The US air strikes destroyed Iran's military industrial complex. For the US to do a economic bailout of Iran now, when this is the only time with the naval blockade that Iran can be asked to remove all nuclear materials to a third country, would be a serious mistake. It says the only reason would be close to the midterms and high gas prices. Yet says WSJ letting Iran have its way would mean DJT could lose standing with the American public and see this in the midterms. The US naval blockade should not be lifted until Iran not by words but by actions sends out all the nuclear material out of the country, says WSJ. Lifting the naval blockade for 60 days of talks putting off the nuclear issue is the opposite of what the US has insisted on from the beginning- the nuclear issue is the only issue and it comes first is the US position. The mediation by Turkey and Pakistan, Qatar, has done just the opposite, and in this sense it has failed, according to this view in the WSJ. ...

Sharing insights into customer relationships from Varian Systems which makes ultra sound scanners that help in detecion and treatment of cancer. The first insight, you exist to solve a customer problem, it does not mean that something is broken. Second insight if you solve the problem even if the customer has been righteously angry with you, you likely have a lifelong relationship. For breakdown of scanner machines in hospital settings, he has another insight- my rule has always been first to fix the machine as quickly as possible and worry about the money later. This must build trust, and likely builds a strong relationship just from the memory of what you have done and the trouble you have taken.

NBC Wellness, under diet and fitness provides these useful tips to protect the back and also to do your yoga stretches routine the right way. Most of the yoga classes with more people lack the one on one interaction in which a yoga instructor can provide these important tips.  The first bring navel to spine, shoulders to ears for right posture. Bringing navel to spine and shoulders to ears was a prescribed method for Zen Buddhism in Japan and China since the period 1200 AD. Dogen of the Eiheiji temple in Japan in the 13th century turned this admonition into a waka poem- My nose is in line with my navel My ears are on the same plane as my shoulders and in this Japanese verse written for the Kamakura court on the meditational mood-  In the heart of the night                   The moon framing                            A small boat drifting                        Not tossed by the waves                Or swayed by the breeze   This engages the abdominals and is also important as a posture for meditation. Relaxing the shoulders reduces neck and upper back tension and enables sitting in meditation for longer periods. Engaging the inner thighs is important for mountain pose and for pose of upward facing dog. This also protects the knees and is good for walking uphill and downhill. It is also done in the bridge pose for strong knees. Navel to spine, shoulders to ears, engage the inner thighs are critical three must do advice for healthy yoga and meditation. Other useful tips are to keep the hips a good distance apart in warrior pose, and in downward dog keep the hands turned slightly outwards rather than aligned all in a straight line pose.   ...

Meditation HRV and the parasympathetic nervous system. Meditation helps calm the system and build resilience. Health conditions, fatigue, worry, illness, exercise, travel, and also cold, political disruption, deadlines, perception of loss of some sort, annoyances, disruptions,  accidents, other events cause the heart rate variations and the two systems to react in different ways, the sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic system calms us down and meditation is one of the effective ways to get this process to work smoothly.

US and Iran accept Pakistan's mediation of the war with a 2 week ceasefire and opening of Straits of Hormuz- April 7 2026. The mediation by prime minister Sharif of Pakistan gave both sides in the war a way to back down. Both sides agreed to talks in Islamabad, Pakistan. As a partner of Pakistan, China may also have a role in setting up a settlement as China and Japan have the most to lose from the Straits of Hormuz being closed, oil prices rocketing up to $115 and higher, and even a prolonged shutdown of Hormuz Straits. Both China and Japan get 90% of their imports from Hormuz Straits. Oil prices drop to the $100 level from $115 after the announcement of talks in Islamabad. This is not a long term settlement. After the two weeks US president meets president Xi of China in Beijing shortly afterwards on May 14-15. It is likely that preparations for that trip will involve China and Pakistan working together to get the US and Iran to agree to an extension of the ceasefire. One outcome of this war is as Le Monde has noted- the unreliability of Hormuz supplies and shift to imports from US and Venezuela and other parts of the world for fossil fuels. And with this a renewed effort to reduce the fossil fuels needed by accelerating renewable energy supplies in Europe, India and China. More attention will also be focused on reducing the proliferation of nuclear weapons by all major powers. Removing US involvement in NATO may also turn out to be positive in some ways to bring Russia and US as nuclear powers to better working relationships, and reduce the nuclear arms race and weapons race. For Europe it means meeting needs of Ukraine and improving military capabilities. The overall result may be positive for all countries. The Middle East region will be seen as one in which no powers should get involved in and the Middle East will also find it has squandered its valuable oil dividend in five decades of wars and mismanagement and fall behind the rest of Asia and Europe, the US in economic progress and development. ...

The new Social Studies, Civics and English Reading curriculum for K-12 in Texas Schools looks at a broader approach to reading of classics which have been largely bypassed in an erroneous approach to reading focused on whatever is in contemporary trends. The current approach is leading to a generation of children who do not know much about the Nation's history and culture and form of government, about the English language and its prominent American authors. One draft includes books like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle for kindergartners, “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L’Engle for seventh graders and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech for eighth graders. Frederick Douglas and Langston Hughes are also included. It also has passages from the Bible, including a meditation on Love from First Corinthians.  All this is happening as the Nation has a new Test alternative to ACT and SAT called the CLT Classical Learning Test which provides longer reading passages from English and American Literature and history, science, technology, world knowledge, far better than ACT or SAT. ...

New Yok has a mandatory foreclosure mediation program, with a 3rd party mediator working with the homeowner and the bank to achieve a loan modification. Of the 42,256 mortgages in New York approaching foreclosure since Jan 1, 2010, 75% went into the mediation process. Of this 80% achieved permanent modifications. In Connecticut 70% of 29,000 mortgages went into mediation with over 60% achieving permanent modifications for the same period. Where the mediation was optional as in New Jersey, only 20% of 50,713 mortgages went into mediation. In Nevada, another optional state, only 11% of 62,593 mortgages went into mediation. Mediation rates rocket when it is mandatory. One expert says that this is because mandatory mediation brings accountability and humanizes the process. By reducing the interest rate and making for lower payments the borrower stays in the home, and the bank continues to get its lower but consistent income stream compared to a default in payments. Today 20 states offer some form of mediation but only 2 states and 2 cities make it mandatory. This is happening in the disturbing context of a decline in troubled homeowners receiving assistance or modifications. About 470,000 homeowners received loan assistance in the 3rd quarter, down 17% from the second quarter, and down 32% from the same quarter a year earlier. The paradox is that one way to stimulate the economy that is not being tried is to mitigate losses in the housing market for homeowners and lenders. Spain's financial sector is doing modifications routinely and this is one way it is softening the impact of losses from the housing market. See Spain and residential mortgages....

How Integrative Medicine, changes in lifestyle and diet, yoga and exercize, meditation, no smoking habits, can add up to changes in the nation's health that work more effectively than new drugs to prevent or delay the onset and progression of chronic diseases like diabetes, asthma, heart disease and of obesity, etc that consume 75% of the costs in the $2.1 trillion spent on medical care in the USA. Shockingly 95% of these costs are incurred after the onset of the disease, proving that prevention is simply not an important part of the equation.
