It sees its promises in the election as real when it made clear statements to stop migration and cut benefits, with its credibility at stake. Neil Gorsuch, Supreme Court nominee, says at a Congressional confirmation hearing, that he is independent, has made no promises to anyone, and can vote against any party. On Roe vs. Wade Gorsuch made this comment- "I would tell you that Roe v. Wade, decided in 1973, is the precedent of the U.S. Supreme Court, and all of the other factors that go into analyzing precedent have to be considered." Earlier articles in NYT have said that Gorsuch appears to be independent. On precedent Gorsuch also said "its our shared family history as judges, as a good judge you don't approach that question anew as if it has never been decided."

Audi is the second largest car company in the premium car category in China after BMW. Audi now plans to make 700,000 cars in China by 2015 instead of 2020 as planned earlier. Audi say executives say the premium car segment in China is growing rapidly in China. It expects sales to grow overall at a a more normal pace than the frenetic pace of recent years. The slower growth in the economy at 7-8%, which is reflected in slower sales in the overall market, is not the case with the premium cars. Because of rapid growth in 4-5 years the Chinese market for premium cars will look more like mature markets in the U.S. and Europe, says Audi sales chief Schwarzenbauer.

Intel Board members disagreements on how to run the company 2025. Lip-Bu Tan replaced Pat Gelsinger as CEO only a few months back.  Pat Gelsinger had a close relationship with Biden and also had close relations with VP JD Vance. Lip Bu-Tan has no such relations and is seen by DJT and Senator Cotton as "conflicted" in his ties to China as an early investor in Chinese chipmakers. DJT calls for Tan's immediate resignation as CEO of Intel in 2025. Lip-Bu Tan left the Board a few months before the ouster of Gelsinger. It now appears that the ouster of Gelsinger as Intel's recovery proceeded but only gradually was a poor decision of the Board.  This report also shows an acting head of Intel Yeary recently considering selling of the manufacturing business to TSMC which is a staggering revelation considering that the US is trying to build its own dominant chip making business in the US, which it had ceded to TSMC in Taiwan after inventing the computer chip. ...

Carl Schramm of the Kauffman Foundation which supports entrepreneurship says Venture Capital Funds have failed in recent years. With less and less of the partner's capital as low as 1% and more money from pension funds and other sources with short term pressures for performance, and the VC funds own 2-20 model (taking 2% each year as management fees and 20% of profits at time of IPO's) these funds have gone more into keeping companies only for afew years and selling them off rather than nurturing for the long run. In an earlier era the VC funds tried to nurthure the companies and did not take in so much in fees and profits. Today they are flipping more like the private equity firms do.And with the poor results turned in by the funds Schramm points out that returns are negative since 1997 for many of these funds. So VC funds are not supporting the new investments in biotech and clean energy even though there is a big need for investments. VC funds invested only $4.8 billion in 637 companies in the 3rd quarter of 2009 down 33% from $7.2 billion and 994 businesses in 2008 acccording to Price WaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association....

BMW's first mass production electric car the i3 will go on sale inthe U.S. in the second quarter of 2014, priced at $41,350. It is a city car with a range of 100 miles from one charge. BMW will launch a i8 in 2014. The i8 is a super sports car with high fuel economy. A electric motor drives the front wheels and a 3 cylinder gasoline engine drives rear wheels. BMW's CEO Reithofer has increased spending on R&D so that it can meet the 30% of automobiles that have to be hybrids or electric vehicles by 2025 for BMW to meet higher European auto emissions standards. R&D spending was up 17% in 2012 to 9.2 billion euros, and capital spending up 42%.

Under the 50+1 rule, a German Football League regulation, club members retain majority voting rights in an outsourced company that runs its football team. This gives it a genuine local presence and is why German clubs have opposed the Super League of just a few star teams playing each other. This DW.com report shows messages on Twitter by Eintracht Frankfurt saying that the whole Super League idea "is completely absurd." And that "every decent club must distance itself from it." British prime minister Boris Johnson says he is cutting down on carbohydrates, chocolate and late night cheese, and urges Britain to take up healthy diets. In a video posted on Twitter he says he is "doing everything I can to lose weight, and to feel fitter and healthier. I've been eating less carbs, avoiding chocolate, no more late night cheese."

China's EV market is very competitive and price cuts by Tesla have led to falling prices. BYD sold 900,000 electric vehicles in the first 5 months of 2023, Tesla 200,000, and Li Motors 100,000. A meeting of European leaders from Germany, France, Spain, and Italy with African leaders from Libya, Chad and Niger, comes up with priority steps to take for reducing migration from African countries to Europe. Steps include aid to countries with high flow of migrants. The EU gave $10 million to Niger to fight illegal immigration. The French president Macron suggested setting up hotspots from where migrants could apply for legal migration. Chancellor Merkel cautioned that this applied only to humanitarian refugees and not to economic refugees. The presidents of Chad and Niger point out that the cause is poverty, and smugglers need to be diverted to other occupations such as commerce or farming. During 2017 to August 125,000 migrants have come across the Mediterranean on boats. Smugglers put people on small boats leading to many deaths and rescue efforts.

With him as deputy prime ministers are the leaders of the Northern League, Mr. Salvini, and the Five Star, Mr. Maio. 

The Northern League has taken anti-immigrant positions and sees the eurozone and euro currency as "a crime against humanity." The Five Star and the Northern League are in many ways polar opposites. Initially the anti-euro currency Paolo Savona was put forward as economy minister and rejected by the president.

Italy's National Reform Plan shows a forecast of GDP contraction in 2012 of 1.2%, up from an earlier forecast. Italy will show a budget deficit of 0.5% of GDP in 2013. Italy's Deputy Economy Minister Vittorio Grilli poitsed out that in structural, cyclically adjusted terms Italy will post a budget surplus of 0.6% of GDP in 2013, that fiscal policy was tightening. This was confirmed by the IMF which said that Italy will achieve structural balance in 2013- which means that if the economy were operating at full potential Italy would have a balanced budget.
