Black Rock's collection of $10 trillion in passive assets or shares in firms that it manages for investors, including pension funds, brings with it voting rights for these shares. About 45% of investors have now expressed interest in doing the voting themselves. The voting provides Black Rock and other passive index tracking funds enormous leverage over thousands of American companies.

This voting rights power it can use to support Black Rock's stance on social issues. Recently Republican senators introduced a bill calling for individual investors in passive funds to have the option of voting their own shares instead of Black Rock or some passive index tracking fund doing it for them. 

Black Rock has responded with a voting choice platform that now has $520 billion of the $10 trillion it manages for investors.

An "elite information warfare" unit has been mobilized in the British Army. There is alarm that large sections of the British public are being given disinformation about the vaccines being developed by Britain, India, and the U.S.

U.S. president Trump says he will rely on Congressional legislation on update of the 1980's CFIUS law giving the executive ability to review foreign investment transactions seen as national security risk. This approach was seen as better than executive action after the Trump administration decided this would be sufficient to protect U.S. technology. Goldman Sachs Group is in negotiations with the U.S. government to admit responsibility for its role in the 1MDB corruption scandal in Malaysia and pay a $2 billion fine. The WSJ reports that Goldman raised $6.5 billion for 1MDB, or 1Malaysia Development BhD. Money raised was intended to be used for development and infrastructure in Malaysia. WSJ points out that it was misused by Malaysian government advisors under the government of Mr. Najib Razak, and 2 Goldman bankers. Goldman pursued $600 million in fees and ignored red flags that this misuse of funds was happening. Malaysia's newly elected government of Mr. Mahathir Mohammed is trying to clear up the mess of the previous government of Mr. Najib Razak, and has charged Goldman in a separate criminal investigation including 17 former and current employees of Goldman offices in Asia. Mr. Mahathir Mohammed came to power on an anti-corruption platform. The WSJ was the first to look into problems at the development fund, which it has continued to do for many years, helping Malaysia redirect development finances for growth. ...

Michigan Governor Whitmer, a Democrat, says she supports tariffs in a state hit hard by offshoring of American factories and loss of jobs leading to decay of small towns depending on factories. She says tariffs should be done in a way that do not increase cost of living for workers and families. Whitmer calls for distribution of tariff revenues to workers and small businesses hit by tariff related price increases in this op-ed in the Washington Post. DJT has called for a $2000 rebate to go to American workers and their families and all who are impacted by tariffs using the tariff revenues in 2025 and 2026 estimated at $550 billion. Two German Patriot air defense systems are to be transferred to Ukraine and replaced by the US. The decision by Germany's Merz comes as Kyiv suffers a cruise missile attack that destroys an apartment block leading to 31 dead and 159 wounded on July 31, 2025. Five of 8 cruise missiles used evaded air defense systems.  The war brings ancient history important to Russia in the founding of the Russian state in European history before 1450 and complicated history after the Communist Bolshevik Russian revolution in the Ukraine region, the Cold War and Russia returning to its historic role of a Northern European Power. Russian commentary on Russian nationalism today suggests Russia seeks acceptance as a major European power without Wall Street's evaluation based on GDP of nations leaving Russia middling status. Wall Street gives disproportionate importance to China relative to India, Russia and Brazil three large nations on 3 continents for example. Witkoff is on the way as DJT emissary to Russia to seek some solution, but the war drags on as Russia sees itself making slow yet steady progress and seeks to end the war on terms favorable to it following huge loss of life estimated at hundreds of thousands. In August both sides including DJT are losing patience. DJT offers more sanctions but says at the same time that this may not deter Russia. Following SPD's Scholz frustrated yet restrained approach to the war, Chancellor Merz is investing in a rebuilding of Germany's defense forces and it's infrastructure. ...
