Sector by sector infrastructure reviews chaired by the prime minister have resumed as the coronavirus cases fall below 50,000 a day on June 26. The prime minister has done a detailed review from a few ministries including transport and civil aviation. Before the pandemic such reviews were done every quarter. A separate presentation by each sector is given to the full council of ministers so that all ministers are aware of the problems and how they are tackled by each ministry.

Before the second wave of the pandemic the prime minister had met with private industry partners in infrastructure development to push forward with significant progress. The task now is for quick implementation so that time lost from the second wave can be made up.

Even the Telegraph's title is misleading as the article covers the debate in the House on Commons on Syria, but the title appeals to Telegraph readers critical of Corbyn when the debate is about Syria and what action to take about the bombings.   ...

Reports show that Ms. Giffords was among a group of Democratic House candidates featured on the web site of Sarah Palin's political action committee with cross hairs over their districts. This fact disturbed Giffords at that time. "We're on Sarah Palin's targeted list," Ms Giffords said in March. "But the thing is the way that she has depicted has the cross hairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they've got to realize there's consequences to that."

Conditions that a Netanyahu government would accept for the creation of a new Palestinian state are a military presence on the Jordan river, and sovereignty over Jerusalem and the settlement blocs. He would be willing to negotiate the giving up of the rest of the West Bank. Another condition is that the Palestinian government cannot include Hamas. This was outlined in a speech he made to Parliament on May 16, 2011. A loan scandal at Post Hellenic Bank cost the bank $678 million. The CEO of Pos Hellenic Bank, Angelos Filippidis, recklessly approved loans without guarantees according to prosecutors in Greece. He is now in a Turkish jail awaiting extraditon to Greece after being arrested in a Istanbul hotel. Eleni Raikou, and Popi Papandreou, are the two leading Athens prosecutors conducting the investigations. Three deals for submarines, tanks and aircraft cost $6.8 billion and are said to be purchased at inflated prices. These deals are being investigated. It is this widespread corruption in the political elite in Greece that has drawn the ire of Germans when considering the request for new loans to prevent a bankruptcy in Greece in 2011-2012. Especially because ordinary Germans have accepted lower wages to bring down the once high unemployment rate.

Chinese leaders at annual policy meeting turn to issues facing nation's 730 millon farmers, as urban outcomes year after year far outpace growth of rural incomes. See graph. Urban incomes have shot up just as rural incomes remain sluggish as the country has focused on rapid industrialization, rapid urbanization and an export driven manufacturing economy for two decades with some success because of the focused effort. But this focused effort is dependent on the ability of Western Europe and the USA as well as other countries sucking in cheaper Chinese manufactured goods. This ability of the western countries to absorb Chinese manufactured goods at an astonishing rate is now called into question, and maybe permanently impaired after years of out of control consumption and spending and easy credit with the impact of the credit and housing crisis. As one of the aspects of this focused effort was to make enough rapid progress in industry and urbanization that it could stay ahead of the problems facing the rural areas and farmers, the new situation in western countries and China's lowered growth rate with lower exports, calls for new thinking on how to address the problems facing the rural areas and farmers. Part of the problem is that farmers do not own land in China. The government owns all the land and China's farmers only have 30 year leases on the land and technically that land cannot be sold though it can be transferred. A related aspect to this is that farms though having 50% more productivity than in 1980 are still small by western standards and it takes a lot of land to feed the growing needs of a more affluent urban population. The typical Chinese farm is 1.5 acres compared to 15 acres in Hungary and Poland and 432 acres in the USA. Obviously the US farms are huge and China does not have the vast acreages of land compared to the people, but larger farms would enable the kind of improvements posible on larger farms to raise productivity. Ways have to be found to increase farmers incomes and to enable farmers to move to urban areas which means creating more jobs. This will have to be done in the context of a domestic led growth and trade with other Asian countries as the export drive and export industries shipping products to western countries see their growth fall. ...

The joint statement after the G-8 summit stated that "our imperative is to promote growth and jobs." It stated the budget deficits need to be addressed but said "spending cuts must "take into account countries' evolving economic conditions and underpin confidence and economy recovery." Germany's Merkel in her remarks said growth and deficit reduction supported each other, that "we have to work on both paths, and the participants have made clear, and I think this is great progress." Obama and Hollande see the need to reduce high unemployment in the U.S. and Europe by encouraging growth, creating a common interest....

Cem Ozdemir, Baden-Wurttemberg State Premier, with roots in Turkey born in Stuttgart area (parents came to Germany in the 1960's). Cem Ozdemir is exceptional in his popularity in an affluent German state. The 2026 state election campaign was run with focus on Ozdemir, and he did well in his debate with the CDU leader in the state. He led his party to over 30% of the vote. A third of working class voters gave the AfD their vote and it made it to 19% of the vote. The CDU came in second with a half percentage point below the Greens at 29.5%. Ozdemir was pre school educator and has a degree in psychology before he joined the Greens party. Under Chancellor Schroeder he was domestic spokesperson, and under Chancellor Scholz in 2024 he was Agriculture Minister.

In the third Democratic presidential debate in Dec. 2013 Hillary Clinton came out looking much stronger than Sanders and Malloy. She described the Sanders government programs to make helath care and college free as too expensive requiring a 40% increase in federal spending, or $18 trillion-$20 trillion. Clinton said "we have to be really thoughtful about how we're going to afford what we propose." And said she would not increase taxes on those making less than $250,000 a year. On foreign policy issues she differed with Sanders and Malloy on the Assad regime and civilian deaths in Syria, saying Sanders had supported the removal of the Qaddafi regime in Libya. She used her long experience as Secretary of State to display a better command of the issues. On Hillary Clinton's comment about Donald Trump's statement for barring Muslims from entry into the U.S., that it was becoming a recruiting tool for ISIS videos, a NYT fact check shows no proof of this. Clinton said she preferred not to turn the issue of terrorism into a clash of civilizations with Islam, as her Republican opponents have done....
