Scientists say the drought in the western region of the US is the worst in hundreds of years. At Lake Mead the reservoir is only 28% full. The other reservoirs on the Colorado river are in similar shape. Lake Mead is a reservoir from the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River and stretches for 120 miles in the states of Arizona and Nevada. It is the largest reservoir in the US and the water depletion in this and other reservoirs all the way into Oregon is affecting agriculture in the western US and the access to water for cities in the region.

Zelensky is going to Hiroshima to make his own case for support directly to all G7 leaders. The fact that G7 leaders are meeting in Japan also has significance as Japan unlike Europe with NATO faces Russian presence in its northern islands and China in the South China Sea and around Taiwan, North Korea, with only the American defense agreement in any conflict. Japan, Australia and India would want to see a clear end to the conflict in Eastern Europe that also sends a message that the status quo will be preserved on Taiwan and other issues in Asia.

Diamond Networks is setup by Sinclair Broadcast Group with $8 billion of borrowed money to finance aggressive sports television expansion including major league baseball. The Padres depend on Sinclair's spending for television broadcast rights which are turned over to Comcast cable television and other cable providers, who face reduced subscribers because of cord cutting and people shifting to streaming services as cable television becomes prohibitively expensive. At some point the costly deals arranged by Sinclair cannot find buyers and it goes into bankruptcy.

Stellantis reports a loss of $750 million on sales of 41 billion euros for third quarter 2023. As a company with operations distributed evenly all over the world Stellantis suffered smaller losses than GM and Ford. GM's losses of profit were $1.3 billion and Ford's $800 million. From the point of view of workers who want a settlement for fair wages in a cost of living crisis keeping losses sustained by the car company to a minimum so that the industry as a whole does better is important, because when the companies do better so do workers and management.

Charlie Munger of Berkshire Hathaway says one of the reasons he was economically successful is that he read so much, "read so damn much all my life." He says it is charlatanism to charge three percent to pick stocks and manage other people's money, when index funds can do the job better. In India caste is not seen as a positive thing as it is seen as having made India weaker, creating divisions that led to colonization of India by the British and extraction of capital for the East India Company. Throughout it's history Argentina has faced high inflation and economic crises.A similar pattern in Brazil was broken in 1998 after two decades of inflation.
