Vegetable prices in China went up by 22% in July 2010, from a year earlier, and grain prices went up by 12%, eggs by 8%. About a third of household budgets go to food in the budgets of people in India and China. Wheat prices are climbing on world markets after the ban on Russian exports, and rice prices are also climbing with the floods in Pakistan ruining the rice crop- Pakistan being the No.3 world's rice exporter. Personal spending accounts for 36% of overall GDP in China and 57% in India. Food prices in China were up 6.8% in July, 2010. Industrialization in China, and agricultural land freely taken over for factory sites with the consent of local authorites, may be a complicating factor. Jakab's discusses the difference betwen the ADP estimate for jobs added and the Labor Department's figures. ADP numbers had a wide divergence with Labor Department figures for 2011-2013. ADP now uses a different methodology to more closely track the government numbers. For the last five months ADP numbers came out lower than government figures by an average of 32,000, says Jakab. ADP estimate of private non-farm jobs growth is 281,000 for June 2014. A WSJ survey of economists shows nonfarm payroll jobs growth for June at 215,000. In 2010-2011 ADP numbers vastly overestimated the number of jobs created.

ZipRecruiter estimates shows 11.3 million job openings posted in June in the US. Economists surveyed by the WSJ shows there were 11.4 million job openings in April, and 11.1 million in May in the US. The number of people looking for jobs was 5.9 million in April. The US jobs market remains strong.
There is a slight softening because of high interest rates and slowing demand. 390,000 jobs were created in May according to Labor Department. This is expected to soften to 250,000 jobs in June. The unemployment rate staying at 3.6%. The shift out of leisure, hospitality because of covid exposure and lower wages, fewer opportunities continues. There is also as shift from schools to higher paying jobs in other sectors. The hiring in tech and real estate is not as strong as earlier with changing outlook in these sectors.

Biden policies that helped fight inflation included the Inflation Reduction Act to control health costs, the policies to keep Russian oil below a certain level that reduced oil prices to $75 a barrel, and the sequential interest rate increases by Jerome Powell at the Fed. The long term benefits of increased investment in manufacturing in the US for jobs growth, and competitive policy to gain US leadership in many technologies also provide for sound growth in the long term.
