Jordan Bardella's grandparents came from Turin, Italy to Seine-Saint-Dennis, a department north of Paris in the 1960's that was one of the poorest and crime ridden. He saw the condition of immigrants and decided to join the RN at age 16. He had to fight his way through lacking a college degree and connections with a working class name. He speaks some Italian he says and some English, having made an effort to assimilate within France. Here he is interviewed by Adam Sage of The Times of London at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Bardella says he saw the condition of migrants, and the poverty and violence in neighborhoods of migrants. He says in the sixties there was an effort to assimilate as he had done. Today he say it is different with it not being required of generations who arrive now who have their hearts and souls elsewhere. Bardella says that the French model is "Become what we are" and he is sure that this is the right way. He says during his time in the sixties immigration was mostly southern European and assimilation happened which is not happening now.  ...

Danielle Nouy, is nominated by the ECB's governing council to be the chairwoman of the supervisory board of the eurozone's bank supervisor. She held positions as general secretary of France's bank and insurance regulator for 3 years. Nouy joined the Bank of France in 1974. In the 2004 elections Islamic parties in Indonesia had 38% of the vote, this dropped to 28% in 2009, and polls show it is expected to drop to 20% in upcoming 2014 elections. The high of 38% in 2004 followed years of corruption under the Suharto regime and promises of clean government from Islamic parties. The anti-corruption issue has been taken up by successive governments and the popular Yudhoyono administration, leaving Islamic parties without that issue. Missing in this account of Indonesia and Islamic parties is a little bit of history that throws light on the subject. Indonesia was Hindu for the longest period of any large Muslim nation in Asia. In fact Indonesia converted to Islam only about 400 years ago, and has a strong underlying Hindu and Buddhist tradition including reverence for the Hindu god Hanuman, which can be found nowhere else. The Islam of the Crusades and of expansion across the Asian and European continent is a phenomenon foreign to the Indonesian islands. Gajah Mada who helped bring most of Malaya, Indonesia and parts of the Philippines under the Hindu Majapahit empire around 1350, was a symbol of patriotism in the fight against Dutch colonial rule from 1700-1948. The conversion to Islam came with Muslim traders from Malaya in the period 1400-1600. The name Indonesia itself is from a Greek word indus and enos for islands used by British ethnologist George Earl to refer to the archipelago. ...

Basically it is about the enormous variety in nature that has been taken away from us by supermarkets and large fruit and vegetable companies that have limited everything to a few varieties in a supermarket for the sake of efficiency in commerce. You may find it amazing, as Saladino says, Victorians may have eaten a apple a day for four years and never eaten the same one twice. So the first thing is to increase the awareness of people of how much diversity really exists in nature if it is allowed to reassert itself over simply food that meets the needs of commerce. Looking clearly at what is lost, Saladino tells The Guardian in this interview, he is reminded of his childhood in Ribera, Sicily, where in the 70's there were so many varieties of oranges and so much color in the food compared to the blandness and limited variety of today's commerce based supermarkets. These small farms have disappeared, and now the varieties that came with them are also in danger unless this biodiversity is restored. ...

A 5 month investigation by Adam Tolley KC into bullying claims from the British Civil Service led to his resignation. The bullying claims came from three departments- the Brexit Department, the Foreign Office, and the Ministry of Justice. Raab's contention was that he was not aware that it was bullying, that behaviour should count as bullying if he knew it was bullying. Tolley disagrees. He says it is the victim's experience that matters more than Raab's intention. Raab says he was faced with "cultural resistance" at the Ministry of Justice on developing a British Bill of Rights to replace the European Convention of Human Rights. Tolley stays out of this but does say there was "an adverse impact of the health" of civil servants and that their complaints were "acting in good faith in raising concerns that they genuinely held." It could be said that this is part of the role of the civil service to share their genuine thoughts on a matter pertaining that could lead to wise decisions or changes in decisions. The Guardian reports that the style of cutting people off because he did not want his time to be wasted, had the effect of being intimidating and abrasive. ...

How currency exchange rates are creating shifts in production from Europe into the US and further accelerating the changes in the automotive landscape. Now more German factories are planned by the likes of VW and BMW and their suppliers, and near their production bases in southern states which are non-unionized labor. BMW figures currency swings cost it about $900 million in earnings in 2006 due to the stronger euro. Both BMW and Mercedes see the stronger euro as a long term thing and are planning investments in the US based on this. BMW is expanding its Spartanburg , NC facility. In addition to the X3 SUV it will make the X5 and X6 SUVs there. And product from here will be exported back to Europe and other countries in addition to the US market. Mercedes had already expanded in Vance, Alabama before the pronounced currency swing for the euro. The Korean car makers Hyundai and Kia are facing similiar situation because of the stronger won. The weaker yen is creating a revert back to production in Japan in the case of Toyota and a halt to expansion in the USA, see the article on this recently. ...

The poor decisions made by former CEO, Mark Hurd, leading to underinvestment in research and development and lack of funding for H-P Labs, leave H-P in a weaker position. The cuts were lauded at the time by the financial media but left the company with weaker technological capabilities. The distractions since 2005, with changing CEO's and lack of proper direction in the company, a weak board of directors, a large bureaucracy and inefficient sales force, and the emergence of low cost competitors from Taiwan, are hurting H-P's performance and capabilities. Meg Whitman, the current CEO, plans another round of layoffs, following the layoffs under Hurd. About 30,000 of 324,000 existing employees will be retired or laid off. H-P generated only $1.7 billion in net earnign on sales of $127 billion in fiscal 2011. In smartphones, cloud computing services and tablet computers, H-P has either stumbled or still struggles to develop clear winners.
