Sanders wins in New Hampshire Democratic primary election with 60% of the votes, to Clinton's 34%. Voter turnout was record breaking in the Democratic primary. Women voted for Sanders 55% to 44% for Clinton. In the Republican primary Trump won 35% of the vote to Kasich's 16%, followed by Cruz, Rubio, and Jeb Bush. The Republican primary continues to show a fragmented vote with many candidates.

In a speech on June 6, 2011, Fed chairman Bernanke says "monetary policy cannot be a panacea." He points out that monetary policy can only do so much, in effect reducing expectations that the Fed can by itself tackle the problems stemming from the economic crisis of 2008, the overleveraging of the U.S. consumer and the banking sector, and the problems in housing. A Labor Department report shows 13.7 million unemployed in April 2011, and 3 million job openings at the end of April 2011. The former Attorney General of Ohio, Richard Cordray, was nominated to head the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Cordray is the current head of enforcement at the new agency. The CFPB is part of the overhaul in regulation of the financial industry mandated by the Dodd-Frank legislation. This agency has the authority to write new consumer protection rules, see that federal consumer financial protection laws are enforced, dispatch examiners to review bank accounting and records and look into consumer complaints. The new Bureau's rules can only be overturned by a super majority in the Financial Stability oversight Council, which is headed by the Treasury department, or by appeal to the courts.
