Mexican president Avila Camacho sent the 201st Fighter Squadron as part of the Mexican Expeditionary Force to train in the U.S. By 1945 this force was taking part in the war in the Philippines. The recent history of two companies making kitchen cooking tools one in Germany and one in Italy also tell the story of the economies of the two countries since the start of the euro currency. Italy's economy has grown by 7%, Germany's by 31%. The Piedmont region's household income fell by 5% to 21,000 euros while the North Rhine Westphalia region's income was up by 18% to 26,000 euros since 2007. These are the two regions where Bialeti and Zwilling are located. A major issue with the euro is that countries like Italy or Spain could not devalue their currencies to become more competitive. Russia for example has used a devalued currency to become more competitive and return to economic growth. Zwilling sales have tripled to 700 million euros while Bialetti's sales have fallen 20% from a similar starting point of 200 million euros. Bialetti even had to give an equity stake to a New York hedge fund in a debt restructuring deal.

Researchers at Beihang University and Tsinghua University in Beijing studied how temperatures and relative humidity affected the natural transmission of coronavirus in 100 cities across China, The looked at data on January 21, 22 and 23, before Chinese authorites stopped its spread. They calculated that the infection was more contagious in northern China, with temperatures and relative humidity low, than among the cities along China's warmer and more humid south east coast. Their conclusion- high temperature and high relative humidity significantly reduce the transmission of coronavirus. The researchers are funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Researchers at the Institute of Virology, University of Maryland, have found that the consistently similar weather across the Northern Hemisphere between 30 degrees latitude and 50 degrees latitude north, running through China to South Korea, Japan, Iran, Italy, France, provides temperatures of between 5 and 11 degrees Celsius (41 to 51 degree Fahrenheit, with relative humidity between 44% to 84% and low specific and absolute humidity. South Korean president Moon Jae-in sees his popularity drop from a high of 83% with the outreach efforts to North Korea, to 60% by July 2018 with concern about the economy. Presdent Moon-Jae-in made a campaign pledge for $9 minimum wage by 2020. Recently the minimum wage was increased by about 11% for 2019 after a 16% increase for 2018. Job growth slowed from 836,000 in first 6 months of 2018 compared to 2.15 million for the prior year.

Critics say the increase affects mom and pop small business and results in slower job growth. Youth unemployment is at 9%.

Moon's 83% approval rating is still unusual for South Korea. The opposition conservative party has only 14% approval rating and the previous democratically elected presidents left office with 30% approval.

Adidas plans to open 2500 stores in China by 2015, including 500 in 2010, up from 112 today. Upscale outlets planned for the larger cities in China. The distribution will widen to 1400 cities by 2015, from 500 currently, by moving to smaller towns and cities in China's interior. Adidas also plans to ramp up its presence in basketball, a sport that Nike emphasizes. In China it will offer the NEO brand in smaller cities, targeting teens with prices about 50% of other Adidas brands. The strategy is to introduce Adidas products to people with lower incomes at lower price points, a strategy being used by Nestle, P&G and Unilever in consumer products for emerging markets. Adidas has opened an online retail store with Taobao.com and plans to bring in $500 in internet sales by 2015. Still North America with 14% growth will be Adidas's largest market, and sales in China are not likely to overtake sales in North America by 2015, according to CEO Hainer.

Arminia Bielefield is one of Germany's well known soccer teams today. One cannot say it is a unknown town. I took a picture of the stadium and the passionate soccer fans on a major television station on German television just yesterday. It is in North Rhine Westphalia, and like other German teams in the Bundesliga has a whole soccer fan culture behind its stadium, the city and its surrounding areas, that one can only find in Germany. Entire families different generations grow up attending and cheering for their team.

Chromebooks that were once presented as a low cost option for PC's in schools at about $300 are no longer what they used to be. The expiration dates for hardware that may be working makes them useless in school districts that purchase them only a couple of years before the expiration. They are increasingly being founded in scrap or E-Waste, says this report in WSJ. Macbooks or PC's are a better option because after a few years they can still be worth hundreds of dollars and they can be used and are supported for many years. The cost of sending chromebooks to scrap heaps because of expiration dates could be costing school districts $1.8 billion.

Startup founders can walk away with gains even when a company they founded goes into bankruptcy, billions of dollars of capital are lost for investors. And as investments needed in infrastructure and to fight climate change are diverted to ventures that do not add much to economic progress or betterment. In 2019 Softbank committed billions of dollars to save WeWork, after heavy losses. WeWork's founder Adam Neumann surrendered control with one clause providing a$430 loan to Neumann, says this report in WSJ. If Neumann stopped paying Softbank would have to get the amount due from WeWork share held as collateral. They are now worth only $4 million.

Labour MP's in the north and northeast of England understand this with the option from UK Reform to end this whole thing about illegal migration altogether. Labour has to do soul searching on why it has taken so long to figure this out and why the plan to house immigrants in hotels was put forward in the first place and tougher action taken by Denmark for the last 8 years not adopted earlier. It shows a complete disregard and disrespect for the British system of parliamentary democracy of the 500 years or going back to Magna Carta itself, when the people of Britain and their public safety, their freedom to live in dignity without illegal migrants in their neighborhoods across Britain, is not respected by local and thenational government. This is something that even the people of India, of China, and other Asian countries, African countries, and Latin American countries who understand the contributions of the British parliamentary system to their own governance can readily grasp and respect- the freedom and dignity of the British people in their own neighborhoods to live in complete public safety. ...

The key purpose of learning a language is to communicate with people in other parts of the country, says Venkaiah Naidu, vice president of India 2017-2022. He himself from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh speaks both Telugu his mother tongue, and over the years learned Hindi so that he could talk to people all over India. Even in Europe there are countries with several languages. Switzerland is a land composed of cantons with areas that speak German around Zurich, French Geneva, and Italian around Lugano. Children learn a second language and in German speaking areas children also learn German in both High German and standard German because dialects of German are common.  English is often the chosen language in German speaking areas as the second language after the mother tongue which happens in India. It is a good idea to learn as many languages even if one is not as proficient in all so that one can communciate and travel freely. In India the north has extensive use of Hindi- in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Hindi is the language used, and even in Gujarat, and north east one can communicate in Hindi, so that a southerner can do well just by learning Hindi to communicate and travel freely in all parts of the country. For a Northerner the challenge remains on which language to learn between Tamil for the Madras region, Telegu for the Hyderabad and Vizag region, Karnataki for the Bangalore region, and Malayalam for the Thiruvanathapuram region. At some point in India's future a common script should be adopted for all Indian languages so that only the language pronunciation and vocabulary not the script itself has to be studied . This would make reading and writing easier once one knows the meaning of words. This is the situation in European Union where the languages can be learned without having to learn a different script and is written in the same script as English is using Latin alphabet. Turkey introduced the Latin alphabet to modernize the country and increase literacy in 1928. In India this would make it possible for northerners to learn a southern language and southerners to be able to learn Hindi without difficulty with the script in reading and writing, and in travel across the country. Venkaiah Naidu says about learning more than 2 languages mother tongue and English- learning another tongue such as Hindi makes it possible to do a lot more. "If you want to grow, if you want to communicate your ideas to a larger section of the people, you must know their language." One does not always get it right the first time, but the effort over the years can lead to so much wider exposure to different ideas in a multilingual world. ...

During the period following the first world war Japan occupied this part of China, leading to the later war and occupation of other parts of China. The occupation collapsed when soviet armies entered this region at the end of World War II. Today efforts are being made to improve relations with Japan as talks between North and South Korea lead to prospects of better relations in the region

Ford executes new strategy for reaching the younger first time buyers of small cars in India. The car is a hatchback called the Figo designed with the help of Indian engineers for the Indian and overseas markets. It has done a$500 million expansion of its plant in Chennai, India, doubling production to 200,000 vehicles ayear, and 250,000 diesel engines a year by 2010. Mullaly says: "literally India is designing the small car for the world." Separately Ford is building a new car plant in Chongquing, China, for 300,000 cars, midsize and suv's. The change is huge and dramatic for car production. CSM Worldwide predicts car sales in India 45% higher in 2011 compared to 2007, and 39% growth in China, 26% in Brazil. In contrast, car sales in North Americaand Europe will not have returned to 2007 levels by 2011. Considering declining levels in Japan and Germany sales may be on a slow downturn. See links to this. China's government was not involved, and China says it strongly supports maintaining the security of international submarine cables in accordance with international law. The Chinese ship was carrying Russian fertilizer and had visited Russian ports. Danish Navy ships then tracked the Chinese ship and made it anchor in the Kattegat Strait connecting the Baltic and North Sea. Damage to underwater cables happened in Swedish waters resulting in Sweden launching an investigation.
