There will be a greater mix of people of all ages, it says, as people live and work longer. Companies competing for workers will offer travel, sabbaticals, parental care, and flexibility for remote work around the world depending on an employee's needs and preferences. Some software firms already offer 60 days of remote work overseas, as travel is seen as broadening and good for mental health. Meditation, mindfulness, mental health assistance are seen as part of services companies will give employees.

Voters took note of the quality of each candidate, and Democrats were scrappier  in the fight this time around to give a tight result. Voters did not know much of what Mr. Biden had done to cap healthcare costs in midterm elections for 36 governors races and for control of the US Congress. The pocket book issues mattered to voters with sharp increases in the price of oil and groceries, but less so than made out earlier and voters may have grasped the bigger picture.

The quality of candidates mattered and on the Republican side the influence of Mr. Trump in the primaries led to choosing weaker candidates because of their loyalty to Mr. Trump. In the end with a large turnout of voters on both sides the election was much tighter than expected. Democrats in each state did better using their own initiative and effort this time and were much scrappier in the fight for the Governors races and the Senate.

Offenders as young as 12-15 years are charged in the UK riots. On judge tells youth who was involved in disorder in Manchester, then a few days later throwing stones at police in Rotherham, was told by the judge at Manchester magistrate's court- “You are the first person I have dealt with to have been involved in two. It’s time to stop letting your mum down now. You are to do one thing – do as you’re told.” Online offenders are also charged. Janet Potter, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West, said: “This conviction should be a stark reminder to so-called keyboard warriors: online actions have consequences.” One offender 53 years was jailed for 15 months for a Facebook comment inciting disorder. Persons posting TikTok videos  that incited unrest were also charged.  The oldest rioter a 69 year old first time offender got 2 years and 8 months for joining the riots in Liverpool. Even not participating n a riot but in taking a computer monitor from a burnt out library in Liverpool as for one 22 year old,  the judge's response was for stiff sentences. ...

Boris Johnson was never for austerity and says this in his new book, yet he failed to make the major investments in the British economy in the way Biden has done in the US, and in some ways has left Labor's Starmer with difficult decisions with the strained budget finances of Britain. Of the investments he protected from John Osborne and his austerity plans as chancellor under Cameron Boris Johnson says- “Those big investments – Crossrail, the Olympic site, the Westfield Centre at Shepherd’s Bush – were fortuitously timed for London: vast counter-cyclical programmes that kept the spades going into the ground and people in work.” This was as Mayor of London in 2016. Of Osborne and Cameron so little is left, and so little came out of the period of austerity other than the failed investments Britain failed to make, simply a lost decade for Britain. And the diversion of Brexit under Johnson not taking Britain to a good place for the standard of living of the British people. Of the intraparty conflicts in the Tories he says Sunak's resignation as chancellor should never have happened calling it "worse than a crime," and a mistake for Sunak, the party, and the country. Johnson says that many days as PM he would come back to No.10 flat, exhausted and working into the evening when he should have been talking to colleagues, MP's to keep them all together. After Sunak's resignation from Boris Johnson's cabinet the Tory Conservatives split further apart, this time in the Boris Johnson faction of the party. Sunak's elevation to prime minister was short lived ending up with the Tories going downhill from there.  On the singular goal that led to the splits- that of Brexit- Johnson has little more to say than that in his travels he had found people wanted more Britain. ...

Colonial powers Britain and France create artificial states of Iraq, Syria and Lebanon by 1921 out of the collapsed Ottoman Empire, that are unmanageable even in 2026 with mix of different Islamic sects at odds with each other. Danger being of US and Europe getting sucked into the mess of five decades of wars in the Middle East.

Nicholas Kristof says the strategy adopted during the Clinton administration of negotiations with the North and a partial lifting of sanctions worked better than the situation today. One criticism leveled at that agreement was that North Korea cheated and developed uranium weapon technology on the side. Yet says Kristof the situation is worse today. Under the "Agreed Framework" of the Clinton administration North Korea's Kim regime did not add to its nuclear weapons. Kristof says that policy of putting pressure on China has not worked. It would help if China did not transfer any technology to North Korea. Yet the basic policy of China remains in that it does not want renunification on the Korean peninsula that would put bring a U.S. ally on its southern border. The Bush administration and the Obama administration's policies did not lead to diplomatic progress and the world is a more dangerous place with North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile capability in 2017. French parliamentary elections will be held June 12 and June 19. This report in FR24 looks at the work of Jean Luc Melenchon's parliamentary group in the National Assembly in the last 5 years. He leads a coalition of Socialist, Greens, Communist and other parties that is expected to either form a government or be the second largest group in parliament with over 200 seats. The program of the Melenchon led parties is for an increase in the minimum wage, protecting incomes of workers and families, and reversing years of neglect of the social fabric of society.
