The border with Mexico and the surge in immigration over the last two decades is an issue that has been tackled in largely the same manner by administrations of both Republicans and Democrats. It had one intent- to discourage illegal immigration and migrants flow across the border. Intentions have been well meaning for the Biden administration yet the goal is the same- discourage and send a signal to migrants so that there is no surge in migrants. Both Obama and Trump failed to end Bush's war in Afghanistan. America did not need the huge cost and distraction of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The money spent on wars is badly needed to go on building infrastructure and American manufacturing, supporting workers and families, public services in the US, and building American leadership in science and technology. Older and young Latinos in Arizona think differently. The demographics and attitudes are changing. Younger Latinos in Arizona are considering both parties and see the issues of cost of living and gender similar to other voters. Older Latinos think more about cultural affinities. Part of this change is that two thirds of Latinos in Arizona were born in the US and 40% of Latino immigrants are naturalized citizens. Economic issues and opportunities are playing a bigger part in how they see the world.

Black women had 12% of the jobs in the federal government and did well above the average of 6% for jobs in the federal  government. In the Department of Education black women held 25% of the jobs says NYT.

A change is taking place with more Hispanic and white women, and white men gaining jobs in the private and government sectors. For black women 319,000 lost jobs in both the private and public sectors in Feb-July 2025, much of these losses in the federal government.  While 176,000 Hispanic women gained jobs in private and public sectors, for white women 142,000 gained jobs, and white men at 365,000 making the largest gain, labor statistics show.

He sees BBC as patronizing ordinary Britons who have views that may not coincide with that of people in London who have views on the hard right or hard left. In his view the best way to lose the rationale for BBC license fee is not to educate people on both sides of the story every time. ...

When it comes to essential policy Republicans and Democrats in the US Congress can and will work together. A roughly $1 trillion infrastructure bill passed in the US Senate. Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell says there are issues that are popular with both Democrats and Republicans.  He said in an interview with the WSJ - "The American people, divided, sent us a 50-50 Senate, and a narrowly divided House. I don't think the message of that was, 'Do absolutely nothing.' And if you are going to find an area of potential agreement, I can't think of a better one than infrastructure, which is desperately needed." The infrastructure bill passed this week 69-30 in the US Senate. McConnell thanked president Biden for getting the Democrats ready to compromise to pass the bill. Biden's long experience in the US Congress compares with another US president, when getting Congressional action from both parties was needed. Lyndon Johnson had this type of long experience in the US Congress which enabled him to reach compromise with Republicans to achieve goals in civil rights legislation and in passage of Social Security during the 1960's. In this sense Biden is right for the 2020's when national rebuilding is the task before America. ...

US law now supports turning back migrants at the border. Under public health policy Title 42 migrants are denied asylum, a federal appeals court ruling supporting this. It is also now supported by the Biden administration. It is a key tool used by both the Trump and Biden administrations to combat illegal border crossings. Modi's meeting with Pope Francis planned for half an hour lasts for an hour. Both leaders discussed climate change, inequality, upward mobility, and recovery from the coronavirus. Mr. Modi gave Pope Francis a silver candelabra and a book, The Climate Climb: India's strategy, action, and achievements.  Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, says he hopes the IAEA visit to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine can take place within days. Both Mr. Macron and Mr. Putin have agreed that the inspection visit by IAEA should take place. This nuclear plant is under Russian control but run by Ukrainians and connected to the Ukrainian grid. The fears were that Russia would somehow disconnect it from the Ukrainian grid leading to issues of safety and potential of an accident from lack of cooling systems.

A study done to observe readings for nitrogen dioxide NO2 and particulates in kitchens with gas stoves. Forty million Americans use gas stoves. For these homes the best way to reduce harmful effects is to ventilate with fresh air by opening a window or door a little bit. Particulates come from the food itself that is being cooked and this happens for both gas and induction electric stoves. Only half of American gas stove kitchens turn on the vented hood that takes the air outside, these need to be turned on.

It was not football like as Messi later pointed out. "We suffered more than we should have done," says Messi after the game. After the penalty shootout the Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez sent a defiant look at the Dutch. A fracas ensued and Dumfries of the Nertherlands was given a red card. Different cultural practices about work exist between Taiwan and the US and both sides are learning to adapt to the new situation. These Chip plants are part of the effort of the efforts of the Biden administration to have Taiwanese and South Korean companies to invest in America.
