Under Gates and Ballmer the heads of companies acquired were not brought into company executives discussions. Nadella invited these heads to join the rest of the company's top managers to meetings to hear different views. Nadella says Microsoft would not have missed big trends had it listened more. Under Ballmer acquisitions such as Nokia were not properly handled. Even under Gates in the earlier period products in Search later developed by Google did not get the attention they deserved and heads of companies acquired did not get  to actively participate. The Not Invented Here Syndrome applied to Microsoft managers. The aggressive attitudes did not produce the best results. Like Apple's Cook who has a collaborative style, Nadella has set out to open up the company to different ideas and people. Nadella has shifted the company away from earlier products to cloud computing and mobile computing to produce better results. Under Nadella open source software programming receives the openness and respect it deserves, after the Ballmer years. The change in attitude is real and Nadella as a Microsoft veteran for 24 years has been able to steer the company in a new direction. ...

Putin talks about the period before the Second World War and the Cold War period and says a large number of barriers were unnaturally and artificially forced on the two peoples during this period. He says the two countries and peoples were cruelly kept apart from each other and only now has the relationship assumed a natural pattern where people can communicate and make friends. Young was captivated by an account of Putin's encounter with a blue whale in the summer of 2010. Young asked Putin whether he thought this was dangerous and Putin's response was philosphical and eloquent- human beings are one of the most vulnerable creatures on earth, facing disease, disaster and criminality, he says, as if covering the Russian people's experiences since the Bolshevik revolution right through the period that followed the collapse of the Berlin Wall. He adds that this does not mean one should move back from living life to the fullest, experiencing it to the fullest, which by its very nature is about some level of risk....

In the U.S. he studied for a master's degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin and a MBA from the University of Chicago. Revival of the old city of Diriyah in Riyadh province, Saudi Arabia, where Imam Wahhab and Muhammad ibn Saud, the original chief from the Saud family have their origins. With the help of Imam Wahhab, this tribal chief united the Arabian peninsula in 1744, till the fall to the Ottomans in 1818, lasting 74 years. U.S. president Franklin Roosevelt helped set up Ibn Saud of the original Saud family, as monarch of a new Saudi state in 1932, when it was possible for the French, British and Americans to setup states in the Middle East region to protect their interests. Ibn Saud's son is the current King Salman, who plans to set up a museum complex in Diriyah, and visits the place on weekends.

Reagan added religious conservatives to the cause. Now says Emory University Prof. Joseph Crespino, this is changing as the more educated college educated white collar professionals that Goldwater once appealed to shifting in 2016 to the Democratic Party in places like Georgia and South Carolina. This is a result of the rhetoric of Trump resembling that of George Wallace and Thurmond in the Deep South. With demographic changes there is also new infusion of people from the North to the South in major urban areas. The result in 2016 is that the South no longer appears the way it once was. ...
