Japan's central bank chief, Shirakawa, has come under criticism from both the governing Democratic Party of Japan and the LDP for not acting strongly enough to support Japan's economic growth in 2012. He diluted efforts of setting a 1% inflation target by showing a lack of determination, saying the Bank of Japan could only do so much to tackle deflation, with effort to tackle structural inefficiencies required from the government. The impact of this was to strengthen the yen which weakens Japanese exporters. The LDP candidate for prime minister, Shinzo Abe, in Dec. 2012 general elections, was particularly critical of Shirakawa. Abe is likely to appoint Takatoshi Ito, a Tokyo University economist as the new central bank chief. Ito says Shirakawa talked down each BOJ monetary easing move with cautious language, describing it as a cold shower following each move. This is very different from the talk of the U.S. central bank chief Ben Bernanke, who gave clear signals to financial markets in his statements following monetary easing efforts of QE 1-3. Abe prefers a 2% inflation target and an activist central bank policy comparable to the U.S. Federal Reserve under Ben Bernanke. Financial markets and exchange rates for yen have responded positively to Abe's policy goals....

Policies and actions taken today to reduce future consumption and to conserve oil will create expectations for lower prices in the future in relation to today's price. It will lower price pressures as these expectations get embedded, and as this makes it more profitable to produce more oil rather than leave it in the ground. In addition see the supply of Iraqi oil, and efforts to reverse the oil supply situation in Iran which may happen with a different administration in the US. The reduction in fuel subsidies in Iran would lower oil consumpion in Iran. Efforts to reverse years of decline in Mexican oil fields, and increase supplies in the US by drilling in new areas, would create new supplies. While supply would see changes, demand would see a new fuel efficient car fleet on the streets in several years, and better use of mass transit and rail transit, and oil conservation across the board, this would then create anew and favorable dynamic. But look for oil prices to stabilize at lower levels in relation to current levels of about 140 and higher as it rises in 2008 and 2009 till new expectations get embedded, and not a sharp decline in prices, as pressures from the developing world's demand will continue for years to come. Think a billion people being absorbed over time into urban type economies....

The FDA's investigation into the New England Compounding Center pharmacy shows glaring neglect of the most basic safety and quality practices. The contamination that occurred at the pharmacy's production lab for vials resulted in a U.S. meningitis outbreak affectin 14,000 people and 24 deaths. Regulators were also at fault because of lax regulation of the production site at the lab and because the contaminated vials were a result of grossly negligent practices that were never flagged by regulators.

And other colleagues says he thrived on demonizing the Sunnis and the regular crises under his leadership. The new prime minister Mr. Abadi is also from the same Shiite Dawa party that Maliki belonged to, and it is not clear how is leadership will turn out. The final push for Maliki's ouster came from Ayatollah Sistani of Iran. The U.S. and western allies also pushed for a new leader. The use of sectarian Shiite militias by Maliki to fight the Sunni insurgents from ISIS in 2014 further aggravated Iraq's religious divide.

He worked in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office before becoming deputy assistant attorney general for Nassau County in 1999, and assistant attorney general for Nassau and Suffolk counties. He has served as a justice in the New York County Supreme Court since 2009. Merchan is described as a serious jurist, smart and even tempered, and a no-nonsense judge who is always in control of his courtroom.

Merchan has already handled a case against the Trump Organization and Mr. Weisselberg. In that courtroom he is reported to have said that he would not in any way allow anyone to bring up a selective prosecution claim, or claim that this is some sort of novel prosecution, that Weisselberg was somehow being targeted because of his association with Mr. Trump.

The difference is that Eisenhower was widely respected in both parties and had fought the war against Germany and Japan alongside Gen.George Marshall under president Harry Truman. The Eastern Establishment including Governor Dewey of NY pushed for Eisenhower while the Midwestern States more isolationist in their approach supported Robert Taft. India moves forward with ports and maritime development with projects worth 38,000 crores or $4.75 billion including Mangaluru Port Authority and refinery, petrochemical industries. Priority is being place in port connectivity and development for 150 projects on a 7500 kilometres coastline. Ports are important for logistics and exports, a key priority for linking India to the new supply chain being built by the US and EU, which would link India to manufacturing supply chain in Vietnam, Japan and other countries. Natural gas brought in through ports would enhance green development to reduce climate change emissions. India's coastline of 7500 kms compares with 20,000 for the US, 25,000 for Australia and 14,000 for China. India's coastline is about that of Brazil and a bit less than Mexico. So reliant is Apple on China that it is slow to make changes to adapt to president Biden's policies for a new US Asian Economic Framework that builds new supply chains. Foreign investment is key to reviving growth by attracting new talent, changing business thinking and style of managing that is more open to new ideas and expansion. Indian Navy has expanded to 140 warships and technology modernization with domestically produced ships. About another half of that 140 will be added and produced inside India in the next few years. This effort to build the Indian Navy comes with the need to ensure freedom of the seas for open navigation. Car buying has changed permanently in 5 ways, says this report in WSJ. There are fewer cars made and fewer cars on manufacturer's and dealer's lots, cars are more expensive these days. Car sales have dropped from 17 million before the pandemic to 13 million and up only to 15 million in 2023 as more cars were made. Carmakers have learned to make money by selling fewer cars concentrating on the pricier cars and reducing cars available in the lower end of price range. Used car prices are up on average to $30,000. New car prices have surged to an average of $47,000 in 2022 and 46,000 in 2023.  New car loans are up from average $562 to $733. The share of leased light vehicles has dropped from 30% to 20% of cars sold and carmakers are offering fewer lease deals as demand is easily fulfilled. With fewer leased cars coming in the dealers have to actually go out and buy them.

CDC has given no explanation for its new guidelines that say testing for coronavirus needs to be done only for those with symptoms, not for those exposed to someone within 6 feet who has symptoms. About half of all new cases are from people who are exposed to people with symptoms but have not yet developed symptoms. One of the reasons the virus spread quickly in February is CDC failure in developing of its own test on February 9 and policy that did not let private labs and labs of teaching hospitals develop their own tests and use them for another 3 crucial weeks.  CDC and Health and Human Services Department errors in February, combined with the stalling of an American team for 3 weeks by China to enter Wuhan in January,  have combined to let the coronavirus spread to the wider population.
