Some arithmetic done by analysts shows the value of the Fiat, Opel, Chrysler auto companies, by excluding other non-auto parts of Fiat, and taking out Fiat debt and liabilities estimated at $8 billion euros. And taking that number and Fiat's market cap, the difference gives a value of 5.5 billion euros as what investors ascribe to Fiat Auto and its ambitions. This is just one fourth of the Fiat auto units 2009 revenues of 21.7 billion euros, as estimated by Morgan Stanley.

As revelations of sexual harassment of women in the media industry come into the open following the Weinstein story, NYT provides essays by women who retell their own experiences and discuss the way forward from here. Many women were afraid to talk about it fearing it would hurt them in a workplace dominated by men, though many women were aware of the harassment situations. Yet each group of women in each workplace remained to some extent isolated, and unable to bring the issue out in the open to formulate plans for protections to be put in place. Women CEO's rarely took up the issue, preferring to work on company issues, taking sexual harassment to be a social issue not a business issue. Even though this issue affects the workplace itself in many ways, some of them insidious and detrimental to all. Men often did not take the lead to clear things up and create a good workplace environment, preferring to remain silent in the face of a corrosion of trust.

Ilya Sutskeyer is chief scientist and member of the board. He says Altman's ouster was necessary to protect OpenAI's mission of making Artificial Intelligence beneficial to humanity. Mr. Altman was asked to join a video meeting of the board on Friday 17th November and was immediately fired. Open AI started in 2015 as a nonprofit and in 2019 setup a capped profit subsidiary in which investors returns are capped in relation to the investment. It keeps the nonprofit in charge and able to fire the CEO of the profit subsidiary and keeps the mission as overarching for both subsidiaries. There are three other members who hold no shares in the company and who are bound to a fiduciary duty to "create safe AI that is broadly beneficial to humanity." Tasha McCauley and Helen Toner are the two other members who are members of the Effective Altruism movement who have raised concerns that AI could lead to the extinction of humanity. The Editorial Board of the WSJ says in this editorial that president Trump showed his negotiating skills to arrange the oil deal with the Saudis and Russia for cuts in production of 9.7 million barrels a day, including cuts by non OPEC G20 countries. The drop in U.S. production, cuts by Canada and the effects of sanctions on Venezuela and Iran should take out about 20 million barrels a day. Demand has fallen by 30 million barrels a day from the pandemic. This should help 11 million workers in the U.S. oil industry.

France's Macron introduces a three step plan for reopenings after lockdown, with dates of December 15 and January 20 for reopening the economy. Shops will be allowed to open under strict social distancing rules for Christmas sales. If cases per day drops below 5000 the government will lift the lockdown on Dec. 15 and replace it with a 9 pm curfew. A vocal advocate for women in tennis, Andy Murray of Britain, plans to retire in 2019 after chronic hip pain. Murray was a strong supporter of women in the game and an ally for the WTA Tour where women feel underappreciated compared to men in tennis.

Naomi Osaka, the U.S. Open champion found a new hitting partner in Andy Murray in Bribane, Australia recently. Murrray was taught tennis by his mother Judy. He was the first to hire a women's coach Amelie Mauresmo to his team in 2014. Among those who admire Murray is Billie Jean King, who helped establish women's tennis in the seventies. A first round loss at the Australian Open to Bautista Agut has led to Murray considering retirement.

In 2014 Fiat merged with Chrysler and in 2021 the PSA Group merged with Fiat creating the Stellantis car company with sales in Europe and the US. As CEO of PSA Group Carlos Tavares headed Stellantis. Tavares has skills in persuading unions in Europe to work with him, and motivates his people with his working style. At Chrysler even with losses from 10% absenteeism he has managed to reach operating profit margin of 16.4%. Stellantis plans investments of $35 billion in EV vehicles by 2025 which means it is putting back profits into investing in the future. Stellantis is today larger than GM or Ford. It has 47,000 employees in the US.  Earlier PSA had acquired lossmaker Opel from GM in 2017. Tavares is known for his careful attention to cost, and he has skills in negotiating with the labor unions in Europe for job cuts to stabilize loss makers.  ...
