Spain's borrowing costs increase reaching a high of 7.180% on yields for 10 year Spanish government bonds. There is considerable uncertainty about the bad loans in Spain's banking system and fears that the bad loans could be much larger than previously expected. The New Democracy party of Antonis Samaras won 29.6% of the vote and came in first in the second round of presidential elections in Greece, ahead of Syriza party led by Alexis Tsipras. The Socialist Pasok party won 12.2% of the vote. Tsipras says he will not form a coaltion government with Samaras, and prefers to remain a leader of the opposition in parliament.

France's parliamentary elections showed the Socialist party gaining 280 seats, with two allied parties getting 34 seats, giving the Socialists an absolute majority in parliament. Greens won 17 seats and the far left 10 seats. Former president Sarkozy's Union for a Popular Movement won 194 seats and allies 35 seats, for a total of 229 seats, down from 304 seats.The National Front led by Marie Le Pen won 2 seats.
