The US president called for $100 billion in investments. The Washington Post looks at the current talks by Chevron, Exxon, ConocoPhillips with the Venezuelan government. It shows how far and how quickly things have changed with the US Treasury account that has KPMG Audit and is intended for the Venezuelan people funds for reconstruction of the economy. US media speculates on many topics - how the orderly transition can be made, how the oil industry can be revived and how the investments can be made for infrastructure that has been neglected and broken down. The main point to remember says Marco Rubio who with his long association with Latin America was instrumental in setting up the strategy to get Venezuelan recovery and public participation in phases by finding leaders who can do this within the existing setup left by Chavez and Chavismo. Delcy Rodriguez was chosen. The main point is that it is only 5 months of 2026 and a lot has been achieved to set the right direction. Not mentioned in the Washington Post is that Delcy Rodriguez is in India this week on a trip that brought her in contact with many Indian leaders to meet India's petroleum needs. What can India do in exchange? As part of a long term plan Venezuela shares the experience of India through colonial rule, and can emerge as a key partner for development of its infrastructure and economic revival along with the US. This will change the dynamic into something different- the US offers not merely the Monroe Doctrine principle in the Western Hemisphere but also can now show what was never possible since 1821 and president Monroe - the opportunity to tie up with the US expanded relationships in Asia, with India and Japan that are supporting a huge transformation for 1.4 billion people in India. It offers Venezuela a tie up of its energy resources with US oil companies technologies, and the infrastructure technologies and labor of Japan and India, digital transforming tech nologies of India and Japan/Taiwan. This offers the potential for real revival in Venezuela and in Latin America that never before existed and is now being put in place.  ...

This Editorial in Le Monde says the French president faced a contradictory challenge he did not quite resolve and which gets worse in his second term. He has called for dissolution of the National Assembly as a result. That challenge was to reduce he far right vote but he had done little to implement a policy that would remove the causes of people supporting the far right. It is not only immigration. Immigration has also been tackled across Europe by agreement across all parties to keep out migrants. The lingering issues of worker discontent stem from struggles to make a living during cost of living crisis, and this is true across Europe and also in the US, even in India in the last elections. The other issue is loss of manufacturing that has led to deindustrialization and affected standards of living across Europe and the US. Small and midsized towns in France and in Europe have suffered from the stress of loss of manufacturing and public services without the local revenues to build better living spaces and communities. The policy to reverse this has started in the US, and requires more investment across Europe in infrastructure and public services, timely delivery, so that people across France and Europe can see the results in their daily lives. This then is the challenge for France, and for Germany, and for Europe. It is also the challenge in the US and in India. ...

Governor Yuko Koike has set 2050 as the date for Tokyo to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has put out the plan in "Tokyo Zero Emissions Strategy." All vehicles will be using electricity or fuel cells. And all buildings will use solar and other forms of renewable energy. The govenor called on all Tokyo residents to fight climate change. Also planned is an effort to reduce use of plastic and other materials that consume large amounts of energy.

Britain with the Conservatives in charge is without a clue and financially strapped- the mood in Birtiain is now for Labour under Starmer to right things the way Biden is doing in the US.  ...

The WSJ report says not every attendee was tested for coronavirus.  The WSJ also says this was an unprecedented use of the White House as the lectern for the president was set right on the South lawn facing the White House. When we focus, when we concentrate on the task at hand it is one minute at a time.  Mikaela Shiffrin is the ultimate example of concentration skill going downhill fast between poles requires utmost concentration and she did this for the US in the Olympics after many disappointments in previous Olympics, none of it mattered to her, as she practices and focused. And that takes one to Federer's next point it wasn't effortless. It was repeated practice, it was girt with practice that made a difference. Only today this was evident as Sanju Samson talked about talking with Sachin Tendulkar last night before today's World Cup cricket game Final with New Zealand in which he hit 89 runs and the third time he has done it in the last 2 weeks, in Ahmedabad's Modi Stadium, to become the Player of the Match, watched by nearly 1 billion fans around the world. Supporters of prime minister Netanyahu's judicial overhaul in Israel say there is an overreach by the Supreme Court and it has struck down laws passed in parliament. Opponents of the judicial overhaul say the changes would give the government control of a nine member committee that appoints Supreme Court judges. A simple majority of 61 would make it possible to override decisions of the Supreme Court. At the heart of this struggle is the vision of a secular and pluralist state from the time of its founding by Europeans opposed to a religious and nationalist Israel represented by Netanyahu.

The protests may have begun a new trend that in which parts of the religious right see that things have gone too far too fast for such changes. And the need for new ideas to get a better life for all Israelis without the constant elections and legal battles, the focus on cultural differences of the Netanyahu period.

The BBC cites Mr. Trump's comments on Sean Hannity Show that Attorney General Barr made up his mind "right on the spot" after receiving the Mueller Report before even going into the Report's findings. It says this confirms that Mr. Barr had already made up his mind as stated in an unsolicited June 2018 memo to the Justice Department about presidential immunity from obstruction charges, a reason Mr. Trump chose Barr.

Mr. Mueller did not make a traditional "prosecutorial judgement" because he left it up to Congress as it was not the role of the Justice Department under which Mr. Mueller operated. At issue is also the 34 pages "redacted" by Mr. Barr from the Mueller Report, and Congress will want to see the full Report and all the evidence on obstruction before making up its own mind, says the BBC.

San Diego Padres go all in for hiring the best players with a huge budget of $250 million. Diamond Networks is setup by Sinclair Broadcast Group with $8 billion of borrowed money to finance aggressive sports television expansion including major league baseball. The Padres depend on Sinclair's spending for television broadcast rights which are turned over to Comcast cable television and other cable providers, who face reduced subscribers because of cord cutting and people shifting to streaming services as cable television becomes prohibitively expensive. At some point the costly deals arranged by Sinclair cannot find buyers and it goes into bankruptcy.
