The Baltic Dry Freight Index (BDI Index) dropped to 577 in Jan. 2015, its lowest level since 1987. The BDI Index went up to 11,793 in 2008. Capacity is about 20% higher than demand for dry bulk shipping vessels of commodities such as iron ore and coal. Analysts say tonnage of dry bulk vessels went up by 85% after 2008, just as the demand fell sharply.

The largest competitor Nike has seen a 30% increase in its share price in the last 12 months. Hainer is CEO since 2001, a period in which Adidas earnings quadrupled. Adidas is preparing a new 5 year strategy.

BT Group PLC acquired mobile company EE from Deutsche Telekom of Germany and Orange SA of France for 12.5 billion pounds in cash and stock. EE is the UK's largest mobile company and BT Group the largest fixed line telecom company. With this acquisition BT Group can now bundle fixed line, mobile lines, and television services, to increase subscriber revenue. Deutsche Telekom with a 12% stake is now the largest shareholder in BT Group. Orange will have a 4% stake. The acquisition provides BT Group with a faster 4G network and 30 million EE customers, 24.5 million direct mobile and 834,000 broadband.

Most of the profitability gains for BBVA bank in 2014 came from having less bad debt, and for Santander from lower bad debt charges. Loan balances for BBVA and Santander fell by 2% in 2014.
