The smaller containment design of the Mark 1 Nuclear Reactor used at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan makes it more prone to explosion and rupture from a buildup of hydrogen, according to some experts in the U.S. Nuclear Safety Program at the Union for Concerned Scientists. This design is smaller and cheaper to build but is less robust than other designs. In the U.S. there are 23 Mark 1 reactors at 16 locations, including the Oyster Creek plant in New Jersey, Dresden plant near Chicago, and Monticello plant near Minneapolis. Worldwide there are 32 such reactors in operation. The design was first developed in the 1960's by General Electric. Since then various modifications have been developed including venting systems to help reduce pressure in overheating situations.

Loretta Lynch, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, is likely to become the next Attorney General of the U.S. This is the first time since President Monroe in 1817 that a top prosecutor was directly appointed as Attorney General. She was first nominated in 1999 as U.S. attorney in the Clinton administration, and returned to this office in 2010. She does not have any ties to president Obama. This should help speed up the nomination. Her long experience as a prosecutor, her experience with civil rights and terrorism related cases, and her openness, are cited as key qualifications.

Cinda's bank borrowing has increased from 7.8 billion yuan in 2010 to 161 billion yuan in Oct 2013, with three fourths of this having a maturity of less than 2 years. In contrast to China's three largest banks which have 25-30% of loans in real estate, Cinda's assets are about 50% in real estate, increasing from 25% in 2010. Scholz has taken up rowing at the age of 50 and he says one of his regrets is that he had not done so earlier. He heads a younger more fitness and health oriented government than the one before him, and one that has put first and foremost the idea of dignity of the German worker and his family, an idea he shares with president Biden in the US for the American worker and family.
