Sanders wins in New Hampshire Democratic primary election with 60% of the votes, to Clinton's 34%. Voter turnout was record breaking in the Democratic primary. Women voted for Sanders 55% to 44% for Clinton. In the Republican primary Trump won 35% of the vote to Kasich's 16%, followed by Cruz, Rubio, and Jeb Bush. The Republican primary continues to show a fragmented vote with many candidates.

NYT reporters Perlez and Sang-Hun cite Prof. Shih of Renmin University in Beijing, about China's reluctance to take action against North Korea for missile testing by reducing oil exports and imports of mineral sources from North Korea. China sees stronger sanctions against North Korea, as urged by Japan, South Korea and the U.S., as being counterproductive by reducing Chinese influence in North Korea, alienating North Korea and further increasing its isolation. As a result China is maintaining improved relations with South Korea, as it continues to use diplomacy with the North Korean government. South Korea is responding to continued missile tests by North Korea in 2015-2016 by starting discussions for the deployment of a new Thaad missile defense system.

Steel prices drop by 40% in 2015 for steel supplied to the automobile industry. Chinese producers reduce prices on world markets as China increases exports. ArcelorMittal suffers a loss of $7.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2015 on its steel business and mining. The mining unit had a$3.5 billion operating loss and the company took a writeoff of $3.4 billion on mines as a result of the collapse in the mining industry prices. For the full year the company expects $4.5 billion in earnings for 2015 before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, compared to $5.2 billion in 2014. Its capitalization has declined to about $6.8 billion.
