The U.S. Supreme Court's 6-3 decision against Aereo. Justice Breyer writing an 18 page opinion stated: "We conclude that Aereo is not just an equipment supplier." Adding that Aereo had a "overwhelming likeness" to cable companies which have to pay fees to retransmit broadcast programming. Breyer rejected Aereo's argument that it did not make copyright violations because of the technical makeup of its system, saying that "we do not see how the fact that Aereo transmits via personal copies of programs could make a difference."

Allison was the moderator for the talk on campus on March 2, 2016. Protesters not only forced the speaker and moderator to leave but stormed the car they went back to. Mario Draghi, President of the ECB, turned down proposals to let European central banks send money to troubled European governments through the IMF. Draghi said- "we should't try to circumvent the spirit of the treaty, no matter what the legal trick is." The ECB also opposes large government bond buying to bring down yields on Italian and Spanish government bonds. The ECB by majority vote reduced interest rates in the eurozone by 0.25%, bringing interest rates down to 1%, and reversing rate increases under the previous president Trichet. It also made medium term funding available to European banks on better terms. According to a person in the room, German Chancellor Merkel opened the summit saying Germany opposes a plan to let the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) borrow from the ECB. The ESM is the bailout mechanism for future bailouts.

China's state investment company which holds $200 billion of the country's estimated 1.4 trillion dollars in foregn exchange reserves, will not take large equity stakes in western companies, and the Blackstone deal in which it invested $2 billion will be more of a rarity. This according to Jesse Wang a member of the company,s preparatory group, the company will outsource the investment to western fund managers adnd take stakes in the broader economy, much closer to the model used by Yale or Harvard for their endowment funds. It will be overseen by Lou Jiwei, a former deputy minister of finance.

The work of innovation teams that help reduce lost production time and make production more efficient on Boeing's 737 production lines in Renton, Washington. There are 1300 improvement teams at Boeing for commerical jet production. Examples range from conventional improvements such as remapping production arrangements to unconventional ones like the use of hay loaders to put seats on passenger planes. The work requires highly motivated production engineers and Boeing has a long tradition of this. Boeing has increased 737 jet production to 35 a month from 31.5 with the help of such improvements. The goal is to make 42 planes a month by 2014, and 60 by 2017 when the 737 MAX goes into production. Boeing has a large backlog of orders- 3,700 jets of which 2,300 are 737s.

A group of 7 blind climbers and 4 sighted companions climb up to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro at 18800 feet in Tanzania. It took 9 hours facing high winds and freezing temperatures to climb the last 3000 feet.
The group was selected from hundreds of volunteers from Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya and went through 2 weeks of training. This is a project of John Wilson of Britain's Sightsavers designed to "help create a new image of of blindness in Africa." Geoffrey Salisbury of the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind describes the difficult trek and conditions. Three pairs of worn boots of the hikers can be seen in the Ugandan National Museum. See pictures of the hikers and trek in the high altitude of Mount Kilimanjaro.
